You may have seen this. An establishment in Sayulita was recently shut down after requiring a tip on the bill and having irregular charges.

This action was taken by PROFECO (Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor), which is basically Mexico’s consumer protection agency. Their job is to make sure businesses are treating customers fairly and following the law.

In this case, the business was adding mandatory tips and questionable charges. sSomething that is NOT allowed. Tips in Mexico are ALWAYS voluntary.

This is good to see.

Situations like this can leave a bad impression, especially for visitors, and it’s important there’s some level of oversight to keep things fair. The reality is, the vast majority of places here are honest. But every now and then you’ll run into tactics like this.

Quick reminder:
Always check your bill before paying. Make sure everything matches the menu and what you ordered. If something looks off, ask about it.

In this video, we’re back with Garry, Gwen, and Alana for a one-year update on their permaculture project here in Mexico 🌱

This is Part 3 of the series, and a lot has changed since we first visited. What started as a vision is now beginning to take shape in a real, tangible way. From plant growth to new systems being put in place, you can really start to see how permaculture evolves over time.

We walk the property together, talk about what’s worked, what hasn’t, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way. There’s also some exciting progress with their fruit trees, including how they’re managing growth to produce better, stronger harvests.
