Kicking off day two of our time in Gyeongju (Korea’s ancient capital). It’s a highly underrated city to visit and I think it might be one of our favourite places to visit so far :)
We started off by going to the local market - super local as in we didn’t see any other tourists here! We had gukbap - which translates to soup rice. It sounds plain… but with all the side dishes and the cool morning, it was the perfect dish to have. We had one with pork and the other with ox head - both super delicious. Again, loveeee the colors and all the side dishes that Korea has to offer!!
Then we set up to our next attraction - we went to “do not disturb cafe” which was a cute & large cafe, by a tomb complex and mountains so it was a nice place to have a drink, relax and sit by the views - would recommend!!
Next we head up north to Yangdong village which is an original Korean village (where people still live)!! It was built in ___ and some of the descendants of the clan leader still live here! It was so fascinating to see the original structures and buildings.
It was unfortunately a super hot afternoon which definitely made us struggle a bit so we decided to stop for Bingsu - Korean dessert made up of shaved ice. We got strawberry and injeolmi (roasted soybean) - SO GOOD
For dinner, we had KBBQ at Udu Galbi - a highly rated place and we totally get why. The beef was definitely premium quality and again, the side dishes and sauces were top notch - highly highly recommend!!!
Some other stops include: Woljeonggyo Bridge (beautiful night time views), Bulguksa Temple and Bomun Lake.
Overall, we really enjoyed our visit to Gyeongju and would recommend that you add to your itinerary for Korea! It’s a great way to step into Korean culture and history, away from the crowds (for now) while enjoying beautiful backdrops.
See you on the next adventure 😊
This is what we did so save this for your itinerary if you liked these spots and/or trust our recommendations hahaha
