My sister Sativa was murdered by her boyfriend in Cancun while on vacation in 2021. What we didn't know—what she never knew—was that he had a history of violent crimes against intimate partners. We had to contact every county in Washington ourselves to uncover it.

I started a petition for Sativa's Law: a domestic violence offender registry (similar to s*x offender registries) that requires people convicted of violent crimes against partners to register and disclose their status to current or future partners. Some offenders would have a path to rehabilitation; others would stay on permanently based on severity. It's a system that should've existed before my sister got on that plane.

She deserved to know the truth. Future victims deserve that choice too. If this resonates with you—if you think people should be able to know who they're trusting with their safety—consider signing and sharing. What would you want someone to do if this was your family?

A few moments ago at a press conference, the head of the Raciel López Salazar, announced that finally Taylor Keith Duran Allen, was sentenced to 50 years in prison, for the femicide against his romantic partner that occurred while they were on vacation in in 2021.

Sativa's family did not stop fighting for the young woman, in the final stages of the trial they doubted Mexican justice and today the sentence was finally announced.”

Hace unos momentos en conferencia de prensa, el titular de la Raciel López Salazar, dio a conocer que finalmente Taylor Keith Duran Allen, fue sentenciado a 50 años de prisión, por el f3m!nicid!o en contra de su pareja sentimental ocurrido mientras vacacionaban en en 2021.

La familia de Sativa no dejó de luchar por la joven, en las etapas finales del juicio dudaron de la justicia mexicana y hoy finalmente se dio a conocer la sentencia.

"Mi hermana, Sativa Nichelle Transue, fue asesinada por su novio, Taylor Keith Allen-Duran (quien también usaba el nombre Tee Allen), mientras estaban de vacaciones en Cancún, México durante el fin de semana de Acción de Gracias en 2021. Sativa tenía solo 26 años.

Sativa nació y creció en Cheney, Washington. Se graduó de Cheney High School y de Eastern Washington University con un título en ciencias del ejercicio. Era amable, divertida, compasiva y llevaba luz a cada lugar al que iba. Era profundamente amada por su familia, sus amigos y todos los que la conocían.

Lo que comenzó como una relación abusiva escaló hasta convertirse en violencia que finalmente le quitó la vida. Sativa fue encontrada mu**ta en la habitación de su hotel en el All Ritmo Resort and Waterpark después de que testigos reportaran disturbios, gritos y comportamiento errático por parte de Taylor durante toda la noche. La causa oficial de su muerte fue estrangulamiento con múltiples contusiones, y presentaba claras señales de haber luchado por su vida.

Transue was found dead in a hotel room in Cancun over Thanksgiving. Her boyfriend, Allen, was charged with Femicide and sentenced to prison.

I just wanted to take a moment, on behalf of our entire family, to thank our incredible team of attorneys—Karen, Miguel, and Jonathan—and the prosecution team led by Roger, who worked tirelessly to secure this conviction. They stood by us through every step of this journey, even during the moments when our grief and emotions were overwhelming.

Thank you to the judge who heard Sativa’s case. She handles many cases, yet she gave this one the time, attention, and seriousness it deserved. She worked tirelessly, often long beyond what many Americans consider the end of the workday. She protected the rights of victims, took this case seriously, and sent a clear message—not only to Taylor, but to anyone who commits violence against women—that Cancún will not tolerate femicide.

Thank you to President Claudia Sheinbaum for leading Mexico forward in the pursuit of greater equality and stronger protections for women. The recognition and strengthening of femicide laws is something other nations, including the United States, can learn from.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who supported our family, believed in us, and stood alongside us in the fight for justice for Sativa. We could not have done this without you.

Our legal team prepared us for the possibility of a sentence somewhere in the middle of the range, so hearing the maximum sentence of 50 years still feels surreal.

Justice can never bring Sativa back, but today there is accountability. Her life mattered. Her story mattered. She mattered.
