Alternative metal band from Italy

New album "A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM" is out via Sleaszy Rider Records, featuring DANIEL CAVANAGH (Anathema, Weather Systems) and RAGNAR ZOLBERG (Pain of Salvation, Sign).

Today, July 14th 2025, marks the official release of “HARE (Extended Version)” via Sleaszy Rider Records, the brand-new single from MAYSNOW, a recent addition to the Wanikiya Record/Promotion roster.
This powerful extended version revisits the original track from A Dream Within A Dream, featuring a brand-new intro and an even more intense production by Daniel Cardoso (Anathema, Weather Systems).
Born from the heart of Daniele Rini (vocals) in memory of his friend Mimmo Angelini, MAYSNOW turns pain and darkness into a deep, visceral sound.

Alongside Roberto Vergallo (guitar), Nicola Lezzi (bass), and Graziano Marra (drums), the band blends post-progressive, dark, grunge, and djent influences into a unique mix.
The single kicks off the international promotion of the entire album, in collaboration with Ossidiana Art & Music.

An intense, emotional, and authentic musical journey.

Founded by Daniele Rini (Silvered, Ghost of Mary) in memory of his friend Mimmo Angelini, Maysnow was born from a deep creative urgency, transforming pain into music—a remedy against inner darkness.
Together with guitarist Roberto Vergallo (co-founder and former Silvered), the project immediately took on a visceral and authentic form, later enriched by the addition of bassist Nicola Lezzi (former Ghost of Mary) and, more recently, drummer Graziano Marra (former NonToccateMiranda), thus completing the official line-up.

Their second album, “A Dream Within A Dream”, released in 2024 by Sleaszy Rider Records, is an extraordinary rock/metal work that blends dark, grunge, progressive, post-metal atmospheres with modern djent influences, all while maintaining the acoustic sensitivity that has always distinguished their sound.

The album features outstanding collaborations with Daniel Cavanagh (Anathema, Weather Systems), Ragnar Zolberg (Sign, ex-Pain of Salvation), and the expert production of Daniel Cardoso (Anathema, Weather Systems), who handled mixing and mastering.

Darkness Is My Canvas The End of Times
From Finland now at MorteMagazine Mexico Since 1993
by Asher Media Relations / Rockshots Records

Finnish Prog DARKNESS IS MY CANVAS New Single "Ink In The Water" Off New Album "The End Of Times" Out Aug 2025.

With “Ink In The Water”, Finnish alternative/progressive rock band Darkness Is My Canvas showcase their most instinctive and unpredictable side. The track is the latest single taken from their upcoming debut full-length "The End Of Times", due out August 1st, 2025 via Rockshots Records.

Originally written in a matter of minutes during a spontaneous studio session, “Ink In The Water” captures the band’s no-rules approach to songwriting. “We just felt like doing something fast and upbeat,” the band recalls. “The lyrics were literally transcribed from Pete’s first take on the demo. When we listened back, we knew it had something special.”

A bold dive into post-punk and pop-punk territories, the song stays true to the band’s emotional and melodic core while introducing a refreshing twist. Short but impactful, “Ink In The Water” reflects the band’s ongoing refusal to stick to a single genre. “If a song demands a certain approach, we go for it without hesitation. Genre doesn’t matter—we just serve the song”.

Like other tracks on "The End Of Times," the single balances spontaneity with depth. Its tight structure, punchy rhythm, and unapologetic tone reveal a new side of the band’s sonic identity—one that is vibrant, immediate, and still unmistakably Darkness Is My Canvas.

"The End Of Times" is the debut full-length album from Finnish band Darkness Is My Canvas — a bold and emotional journey through melody, introspection, and modern rock expression. Blending progressive elements, cinematic atmospheres, and sharp alternative energy, the album explores the collapse and rebirth of meaning in a chaotic world. With intricate arrangements, thought-provoking lyrics, and powerful hooks, "The End Of Times" is a record that invites repeated listens, each time revealing new layers and deeper resonance.

"Darkness Is My Canvas has a ton of catchy tracks on this, their debut album. White Noise is an excellent first offering and is the kind of record that makes you want more from them as soon as you can get it. I look forward to hearing more from this band in the future." - Metal Zenith

"In terms of prog-oriented albums, ‘White Noise’ is often chunkier than the most melodic Opeth, but always more accessible than their black metal infused earlier outings. It’s got more of an interest in old fashioned rock than ninety percent of the riff heavy Dream Theater wannabes that have flooded the market over the years but occasionally is happy to share as much of a heavy edge, and from a metal viewpoint, the album’s weighty musical canvas reaches further than most." - Real Gone Rocks.

For those who appreciate bands like Muse, Ghost, and My Chemical Romance, prepare to rock out with Darkness Is My Canvas!

Canada’s HARVESTED Demonstrates Technical Mastery in “Synaptic Confusion” Play-Through Video New Album “Dysthymia” Out August 1st, 2025.

Album Line-up: (L-R) - Jacob Collins – Drums, Vitto Oh – Guitars, Mitchi Dimitriadis – Guitars, Adam Semler – Vocals, Eric Forget – Bass Photographer Credit: Kristen Semler.

technical death metal outfit Harvested showcases their instrumental prowess with a band play-through video for “Synaptic Confusion”, ahead of their August 1st album release "Dysthymia". The performance video highlights the intricate musicianship that defines the band's approach to extreme metal. They comment on the track:

“This is one of our groovier tracks that also really focuses on melody. This one grabs onto you from the beginning till the end. This track describes someone who can’t tell the difference between a dream and reality. Our amalgamation of styles and influences can be heard in this album, and we can’t wait to present it to the world, considering the 2022 EP did so well, and it was just our debut.”

“Synaptic Confusion” ushers in the band's evolution, featuring the complex drumwork of Jacob Collins, whose ‘old-school death metal feel with a modern touch’ provides intricate yet aggressive grooves that anchor the composition. Guitarist Mitchi Dimitriadis delivers the kind of technical riffing that draws comparisons to modern technical death metal innovators while maintaining the raw aggression of classic death metal. The interplay between Eric Forget's bass work and the overall rhythmic foundation demonstrates why the band takes pride in ‘being tight and showcasing our musical capabilities’.

The play-through format of the video allows viewers to witness the band's technical ex*****on firsthand, reinforcing their reputation for seamless integration of multiple death metal subgenres. From technical death metal complexity to brutal death metal aggression and old-school death metal foundation, "Synaptic Confusion" encapsulates the diverse influences that make "Dysthymia" such a compelling release. It is recommended for fans of Dying Fetus, Cattle Decapitation, and Decapitated.

"Canadian death metal band Harvested announce their new album Dysthymia, out August 1. The record will be their first release since their 2022 demo and blends technical, brutal and old-school death metal into a sound all their own." - Decibel Magazine

"The Ottawa, Canada-based death metal band's full-length demo of 2025 does the job. As evidenced by the cover artwork and title - Dysthymia refers to a persistent depression - the theme here is mental illness. Songs like Repressed Neurosis, Unending Madness and Synaptic Confusion tell the tale. One thing remains steadfast: the band's sound comes across as Cannibal Co**se meets Cryptopsy meets Suffocation. The lyrics mention "human waste" at one point. The aforementioned Synaptic Confusion is a highlight with a gigantic chord and a loud bass. Gathered And Deluded is another good one. It has nifty speed riffing. Designed Dilemma delivers a delicious solo. This is meat and potatoes death metal that is tight and accomplished... this is the type of release death metal fans would cherish." - Metallian.com

Press from 2022 Self-Titled EP:

MetalSucks - 10 Modern Canadian Death Metal Bands - "Ottawa’s Harvested present mental illness and the sometimes-deplorable actions resulting from it with their debut EP, Harvested. Harvested describe themselves as a modern death metal band with ‘90s and early ‘2000s influences, though what you’ll notice when listening is that Harvested are, probably due to the members’ prior history in the scene, skilled songwriters who don’t sacrifice catchiness for brutality. Songs like “Bludgeoned” skip the pleasantries and grab you by the nuts from the first second, though the torturous massage that follows is one you’ll be coming back to." - MetalSucks

#11 - Harvested - Top 20 - August 2022 Loud Charts (Earshot)

#13 - Harvested - Top 20 - June 2022 Loud Charts (Earshot)

"From the first notes of first track 'Apathetic' you realize that these men are a serious bet to get a place in the death metal scene, with solid riffs and powerful rhythmic base, also melodic but not soft solo... I like this EP very much, it has all parts you need to listen to death metal: brutality, technical, good ex*****on, guttural, screams, and growls, blast beats, double bass drums parts, virtuous parts and most important, good songs, it's a sample of how to make everything fit correctly." 4.5/5 - Brutalism

"There are very few things that are more exciting within the world of music than a good debut. A solid start for a band is something that should get every fan of the style of music the group plays jacked for what could hopefully be a long and fruitful career. Proficient debuts give you something to jam out to in the present but also hope for the future. Take my word for it, the self-titled debut EP from Ottawa-based Harvested (out May 7) is just that type of invigorating release." - Metal Plague

"Thrashing guitars, blasting drums, and intense, chesty vocals start and end each track. Recording quality and production is good, allowing each of the instruments to cut through the mix... there is a tremendous amount of potential in this band, and I’d absolutely love to hear more from them. I certainly hope that in the coming years, the pace doesn’t slow or abate, as this EP ought to be on any tech-death fan’s radar for mid-2022." - Metal Epidemic

"Each one of these cuts is something of a short, sharp shock at around the 210 second mark, while other bands could trim some fat and loose a chorus and verse, Harvested go straight for the jugular live and direct, leaving you wanting that extra chorus and verse which is testament to how good their debut really is. A clean and crisp high quality recording, if we were wine drinkers we would say it goes down like a glass of Chenin Blanc but chances are that if you had a glass in your hand, it would be smashed on the floor in your rush to get to the pit for this. " - Metal Noise

"From the way closer ‘Bereavement’ comes to a thunderous close, you can just FEEL the energy of what is still to come. ‘Harvested’ is a good start, but I know this band have more in them and I look forward to what comes next. But if you need your head caved in for sixteen and a half minutes, Harvested can sort you right out." - The Killchain Blog

"For a record that's only fifteen minutes, the tracks on Harvested's self-titled waste no time in establishing their barbarous quality. Among the style of tech, groove and dissonance, Harvested definitely went for the grooves! The members definitely know their roots and aren't afraid to pay homage to them. The production quality has an old-school touch to it, which adds a raw vicious quality to the overall soundscape the band has painted. The abominable monstrosity that takes birth, mixed in with serious topics of Mental Illness accounts for a remorseless experience. While this might just be the starting point for Harvested, their self-titled EP establishes their grounds in the extreme realm of metal - all we can do now is wait and watch for what Harvested has to offer next! " - Metal Genesis

"Five tracks in all with not a single entry which disappoints those who wish for their audio to incite movement. With quality like this on offer scouts should be scrambling over themselves in hopes to represent. I’m expecting future releases to propel the act to the lips of an excitable many." - Cult Metal Flix

“Non-stop heaviness from start to finish. Every song has a different experience yet they all have memorable and catchy riffs that engage the listener” - Eric Morotti (Drummer of Suffocation)

Releasing their fourth EP, entitled "Molt," this past April, Tangents is kicking off tour dates from July 16th to 26th across Eastern Canada, with performances in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.

July 23 - Bathurst, NB - Bathurst Southside Lounge
July 24 - One Star Studio (secret location)
July 25 - Edmundston, NB - Microbrasserie Ateepic
July 26 - Lachute, QC - Royal Canadian Legion

With elements of mathcore, prog, and post-hardcore, Tangents take you on a brutally honest journey with nothing to hide during an emotional and heavy 10 minutes on their latest EP's three tracks. The band's goal is to keep the listener on their toes, along with themselves as musicians. Keeping things fresh and ever evolving.

"For this EP, we decided on the 3 songs simply to capture that specific moment in time. I feel that there’s always room for growth, so we constantly keep evolving, we're stoked and proud to release Molt. With our most focused effort, we present to fans a multitude of experiences in a compact timeframe. This offering allowed us to open and embrace challenges and overcome the obstacles that come with growth," adds guitarist Will Tennant.

Taking pride that each member of the band is a multi-instrumentalist, Tangents are a bare bones heavy band, and at the end of the day, they get up there and rock out live to showcase very visceral songs. It's a roller coaster of emotions throughout each track.

Recommended for fans of avant-garde mathy metal and bands such as The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mr Bungle, Every Time I Die, Dog Fashion Disco, and Better Lovers, Tangents' new EP "Molt" is available at the following links:

"if you like bands like Dillenger Escape Plan and Mr. Bungle, these guys could be your next favourite... their new EP Molt is out now, and it only takes 10 and a half minutes to eat through some precise and meaty math-metal riffs!" - Drag The Waters - CKDU 881.FM (Halifax, NS)

"There is a playful spirit to these songs too, even if there is a bit of a grunge undercurrent to these escapades, and that spirit comes mainly due to the vocals and some of the melody lines explored in general. Without ever managing to pinpoint the exact details that brings this association, I keep thinking about Mike Patton and Faith No More when listening to this production. If you can imagine a Mike Patton era Faith No More creating bombastic and dramatic metal with a bit of a grunge undercurrent, then that may perhaps be a little bit of an indication about the type of music you will find on this EP. And if that notion strikes you as an intriguing one, chances are good for you to find this EP to be a rewarding one I'd suspect." - The Viking in the Wilderness

"I’ve blasted this EP time and time again since it dropped and found myself entranced by the instrumentation. It’s clear that Tangents are putting their own spin on this genre, melding their progressive experimentation with the accessible mores of hardcore in way that sounds familiar yet unique at the same time. If this is how they sound now I look forward to hearing more from them, perhaps a full length album if we’re lucky." - Where Strides The Behemoth.

From USA now at MorteMagazine Mexico Since 1993
by Nightime Asylum PR

SCOTT YODER started writing his 5th album Lover, Let Me In in 2021 with an unplugged electric guitar and yellow legal pad, recording on his laptop in his tiny loft bedroom.

The thrumming, deliciously moody single “Never Be Another Day” is “about that kind of intoxicating infatuation and how that can be a very fleeting feeling,” Yoder says. “Because if you don't act on it, it's a tragedy.” Music that, while created solo, is sure to reverberate through anyone who has felt alone — yearning to be let in.

SCOTT YODER will release “Never Be Another Day” on May 30th, 2025.

Despite his somewhat flamboyant image — dandyish and otherworldly in equal measure — SCOTT YODER can be a rather distant person. Self-contained. Introspective. Cerebral. So it’s only fitting that he wrote his first solo album, Lover, Let Me In (out September 5th, 2025), well, solo — tucked away in his tiny house in Seattle with only a pack of feral cats for company.

A native of Vashon Island, Washington, Yoder started making music after his dad bought him a garage sale guitar on his 14th birthday — raised on a steady diet of Marilyn Manson, NIN, and of course, Nirvana. From that moment on, bands became his life, starting with the psych-rock outfit the Pharmacy, which saw Yoder and his friends touring with the Moldy Peaches, traversing Europe, and playing fests like SXSW over the course of their 10-year run.

“Those guys were like brothers to me,” Yoder says. After the group disbanded — they’d simply run their course — Yoder became a folky balladeer, traveling the country with a harmonica and 12-string on buses and trains, before trading traditional Seattle denim and plaid for a painted face and frills. The campy new look was a nod to the films of Ken Russell, as well as a turn toward a more theatrical sound — more T-Rex than troubadour.

Yoder started writing Lover, Let Me In in 2021 with an unplugged electric guitar and yellow legal pad, recording on his laptop in his tiny loft bedroom. “It’s about feeling like there's a barrier between you and someone you care about, and, no matter what you do, no matter how many different ways you try to look at it, no matter either of your good intentions, you just can't break down that barrier,” he says.

Music that, while created solo, is sure to reverberate through anyone who has felt alone — yearning to be let in.

Greetings, readers of Mortem Magazine, this time we'll bring you the chronology of a unique event, like the ones we've always been writing about here in this music, art, and culture magazine. This time, we're traveling to Mexico City to witness the growth of a project called La Casa de la Guitarra Popular A.C., which began three years ago and is now, under the guidance of its creator and director, Mr. Dagoberto Serrano Sánchez, the project has grown from nothing to a solid and robust program.
A school that offers free guitar lessons to all children and young people who wish to learn and begin training as musicians, with technical knowledge and knowledge of songwriting. Now it was time to present this work, not only in Celaya, but also in the nation's capital. It was precisely in the nation's capital and at the Patio Alcázar in Chapultepec Castle, Mexico City.
A fusion of students who excel in their teaching and members already with solid training, the Trova Celayense, together with the Guitar Orchestra of the Casa Popular de Celaya, united under the leadership of Dagoberto Serrano, gave an emotional, majestic, and outstanding presentation of authentic trova and popular music last Saturday, July 12th.
This would be a selection, within the framework of "Imperio castillo de Chapultepec," of the work by Maximilian of Habsburg, which is being exhibited in this historic building. Hence the selection of pieces from France.
It was 2:00 PM on Saturday the 12th, with an excellent temperature of about 24°C. In the heart of the castle, within the Alcázar Patio, the students of the Casa de la Guitarra Popular would give an unparalleled performance and also support greats such as José Luis Duval and Rafael Jorge Negrete. All in an event of international stature in terms of musical and vocal quality.
A world-class concert? We would witness the International Trova Celayense and the Guitar Orchestra of La Casa de La Guitarra Popular A.C. at Chapultepec Castle, with the special participation of baritone Rafael Jorge Negrete and tenor José Luis Duval. Featuring an international repertoire. They would call it "Guanajuato sings in Chapultepec."
A venue with a capacity of 200 people would have been overcrowded by about 350, as the venue would have been overcrowded. This resulted in a third of the participants presenting the event standing or sitting on the floor. This included family members and friends of the participants who traveled from Celaya to attend the event, as well as the general public visiting the museum, including people from Mexico City and foreigners who were present.
The 45-minute event lasted, divided into two parts: an instrumental opening to showcase the technical work of the students of the Casa de la guitarra popular and members of the Celaya trova group. The audience could simply see and hear that the students had developed their technique in playing their instruments, as well as the development of their performance in front of an audience. This is important for their personal development as a musician: controlling their nerves and leading them to a comfortable behavior, allowing them to perform at events with full character and performance of their musical instruments. Likewise, Dagoberto Serrano, the leader of this fusion trova, would be giving notes for each song they performed, aiming to emphasize the nature of each song they selected for this set.
First Act: Students and members of:
Trova Celayense in conjunction with the Guitar Orchestra of the Casa Popular de Celaya.
- Those Were the Days (Russia) by Boris Fomin
- La Vie en Rose (France) by Edith Piaf
- Under the Parisian Sky (France) by Hubert Girad / Jean Drejac
- Black Eyes – Ochie Chyornie (Russia) by Yevhen Hrebinka
- Two Guitars (Russian Folk Song)
- El Condor Pasa (Peru) by Daniel Alomia Robles
- La Paloma (Spain) by Sebastián de Iradier Salaberri

By this point, the audience was immersed in the chords, rhythms, and songs of a trova that took them between songs to exactly where they wanted to be. Music, applause, choruses, and the joy that this music radiates to the audience would give them the moment they had been waiting for.

The great baritone Rafael Jorge Negrete, with his gallantry and powerful voice, and the prestigious tenor José Luis Duval, with his connection with the audience, were responsible for bringing the event to a musical ecstasy. Only heartfelt applause could be heard between songs. Whistles and shouts from the audience, the foreigners (English, Swedish, and Japanese) simply commented among themselves on what they could understand or draw their own conclusions from their own perspective. And the local audience, as well as those who made the trip from the Bajío region, cheered on their children, who were once again writing their own personal history as developing musicians. This is what Dagoberto Serrano Sánchez sought when he founded La Casa de la Guitarra Popular: that young and emerging musicians receive training free from violence and drugs. And what better way to integrate development into their personal and musical lives than to give their families a moment of joyful joy watching their children succeed at events like these.
This set would be unique, with one artist performing a specific piece between each song, and the other performing the next. This gave them their space and allowed them to develop their talents better in front of the audience, not only in their own right, but also so the audience could fully enjoy them. It would be until the last song that the two great artists would come out together to sing, along with students and members of the Trova Celayense, along with the Guitar Orchestra of the Casa Popular de Celaya. A true celebration would be the high point of this presentation. We could already say at that moment that it was a total success for everyone. No one was more important than another; each person contributed something to this event, and that sum would bring them unison applause from everyone present. Recognitions would be given on both sides, from the National Museum of History, Chapultepec Castle would recognize the Trova Celaya and students from the House of the Popular Guitar, Rafael Jorge Negrete and José Luis Duval, and similarly, gifts from the sponsors who came from Celaya to the directors of the Historical Museum.
One afternoon, even with the weather quite pleasant, the museum gave a tour to all those who had come from Celaya to Mexico City, including family members and students, to the different locations around the Castle. As an additional note, as they made their way from Chapultepec Castle to the buses waiting for them to return to the forest, it would begin to rain, and it would be Tlaloc himself, owner of these lands, his way of saying goodbye to the group of students and families.
We would begin to dry off, pack away the gear we were carrying, and leave behind a rainy Mexico City, witnessing once again that a project becomes a reality when people with ideals and well-founded morals create and make it happen. "A dream becomes a reality when it is taken seriously, and this has the name Dagoberto Serrano Sánchez."
