Sv Wind Song

Sv Wind Song sailing the pacific Hi there friend! We are a young couple from the Netherlands (22 & 18 yrs old). And oh YES we found this beauty!

We are taking our boat Windsong, together with friends, on an adventure across the Pacific! Windsong is build in Los Angeles in the 70's, a real one of a kind design, a wooden, classic, beauty! She's in good shape for her age, but before this big trip we have to give her some Love, sweat & tears and hard labour in Ensenada Mexico. When she's ready, we will sail her via the Pacific Islands to New Z

ealand, and hopefully even further! This is how we got Windsong:
My girlfriend and I met summer last year while working as crew on big traditionally rigged sailing vessels. During last winter, we both had to go to school (She to finish high school, me to go to the Dutch Nautical School for sailing ships in Enkhuizen). To kill time we had a hobby; looking at sailing boat adverts on the internet. It didn't matter to us where the boat was. She was for sale in Los Angeles, so I went over to have a look at her and fell in love.

When lifting the outboard out i broke of the bolt holding the steering handle. Tried knocking the bolt out after a soaking of good old wd40, which resulted in snapping of the whole bracket! Had to improvise with cable ties and a glue clamp. It works, but the steering is a bit wobbly!

UPDATE:

So we left Ensenada, 2 days out split the main, no problemo, just fire up the engine to go head to wind and sort it out, but the engine didn't start..
We didn't care, there was good wind so we decided to set course for San Quintin Bay to sort our problems out. No way easy landing there but could borrow a genny to get some juice in the batts and of we were again!
We arrived at the San Benito Islands in the middle of the night and almost out of electricity, we were trying to beat up wind to the only safe anchorage, but there wasn't enough to go about. Luckily the guys from the fishery patrol saw us and were so friendly to give us a tow in exchange for some beers! We wouldn't be able to stay otherwise.
Next day they lend us their genny, and invited us over for delish lobster at their camp!
Next destination: Turtle bay. when we were almost there the wind died down. we could just sail to a little spot in the bay north of turtle bay to anchor and catch some sleep. next morning we saw wales very close by in beautiful sunshine. some fisherman advised us to go to turtle bay rappido because there was some nasty weather underway. we arrived in turtle bay later that afternoon after a dozen of tacks.
On shore some friendly Canadian sailors gave us a weather forecast, it was going to the South so we had to beat al the way to the other side of the day were we put 75 meters of chain in the water and rode out the storm all fine. When we anchored up we found out that the anchor was fouled in some old fishing gear, we cleared it and tacked back up to the town on the other side of the bay again!
That's where we are now, repairing the engine and mainsail, with lots of help from lovely locals and other sailors.

Until next time!
