Back in 2014, I got the opportunity to work for one of the most successful dental clinics in Los Algodones. I still remember the moment I received the call — I was interviewed over the phone and hired on the spot.
At that time, I was coming from a very dark period in my life. I had spent nearly 7 years struggling to find a job, even though I had customer service experience. Every interview chipped away at my confidence, so when this opportunity came… I was grateful. Deeply grateful. And ready to start.
I’ve always loved visiting the U.S. — the culture, the cities, the people. The last city I visited before getting hired was Yuma, Arizona… and suddenly I was working in Los Algodones, the border town right next to it.
Before I ever stepped foot in Algodones, I used to imagine it as this long desert block with a handful of dental clinics — like a beautifully designed ghost town.
But the reality was completely different.
It was colorful, full of energy, running on USD, and packed with Americans and Canadians. I instantly fell in love with the place.
It felt like a small U.S. town living inside Mexico.
