FRESH KOREAN FLAVORS IN THE HEART OF MÉRIDA!

We had a wonderful lunch at NARE casa de bab last week, and this was my second visit. If you love fresh, flavorful Korean food, this is definitely a spot to put on your list!

You may already know Nare from the Slow Food Market, where she spent the past four years sharing her food. Her story is part of what makes this place special. After years in a stable corporate career in Korea, she realized it wasn’t making her happy, left that path and began learning to cook. Memories of Mexico from her honeymoon eventually brought her back with a dream of sharing authentic Korean flavors in a warm, home-like space. ❤️

We started with refreshing mango-coconut and peach fruit drinks, both filled with chunks of fruit, and then moved on to the food.

My favorite is definitely the bibimbap! 🥢 It tastes so fresh and healthy, with lots of colorful vegetables and perfectly spiced ground meat over rice. You mix everything together with the sauce, and all those textures and amazing flavors come together in every bite. So good!

We also loved the K-Bowl—fluffy white rice topped with fresh cucumber, corn, carrots, lettuce and red onion. We chose the Red Pork, tender pork in a flavorful gochujang sauce, and it was amazing! It’s fresh and satisfying, with a great balance between the crisp vegetables, rice and that slightly spicy, savory Korean chile sauce.

We also tried the kimbab, made with premium Korean seaweed, the bulgogi version with smoky Korean BBQ pork, and the dak-gangjeong—crispy double-fried chicken coated in Nare’s sweet and savory sauce with a Mexican kick from serrano chile. 🌶️

What I really like about NARE is that the food feels fresh, comforting and packed with flavor, while staying connected to Nare’s Korean roots and incorporating ingredients from here in Yucatán.

📍 NARE Korean Food
Calle 58 between 51 & 53, Mérida Centro
Open: Thursday -Tuesday 1-8pm

If Korean food is your thing—or you’ve been wanting to try it—put NARE on your list!

✨ SEPTEMBER AT Coamed Estetic

I’ve shared before that Coamed Estetic is one of the places I go to for my own skin treatments, and they have several special promotions going on this September that I wanted to share.

One of them is PRX-PLUS, a treatment I’ve personally done at Coamed and like because it focuses on improving the overall quality and appearance of the skin without needles. This month they are offering 3 sessions plus 1 complimentary session.

They also have a Botox Party coming up September 14 and 15, as well as the launch of Zaffiro on September 17. There are several other treatments and special benefits available throughout the month, so take a look at their Social Media to see all of their September promotions and details.

What I continue to like about Coamed is that they focus on treatments based on what each person actually needs rather than taking the same approach with everyone.

Something Special to see at SOHO Galleries

We love seeing pieces that celebrate Mérida and Yucatán in such a unique way, and these limited-edition ceramics by artist DaNisha at SOHO Galleries do just that.

Each piece is individually designed and handcrafted, with scenes inspired by the architecture and landmarks we see around Mérida. Some feature historic buildings, churches and monuments, with tiny details like the Mexican flag, colorful cars and familiar streets worked into the designs. The more you look at them, the more little details you start to notice. Other pieces in the collection bring in Yucatecan nature as well, including the Toh bird and Flor de Mayo.

It’s always interesting to see how different artists interpret the place we call home, and these are definitely worth a closer look the next time you’re at SoHo.

🇱🇧🥘 LEBANESE HOME COOKING AT TARBUSH’S NEWEST LOCATION NEAR ALTABRISA!

📍 Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/PWcCGyCxH1YvcLHUA?g_st=ic

Tarbush Lebanese Restaurant & Store now near Altabrisa in Colonia Maya!

If you’ve been following along, you know I’m always on the hunt for great Middle Eastern food in Mérida—and Tarbush continues to be one of my favorites!

They’ve recently moved into a new location where they still have their small specialty store filled with freshly made Lebanese favorites to take home—hummus, baba ganoush, kibbeh, stuffed grape leaves and more. You’ll also find pita bread, pine nuts, Arabic coffee, traditional coffee makers and even hookahs.

But now there’s more! They’ve created a lovely little dining room where you can sit down for breakfast or lunch, with an extensive menu of Lebanese home cooking. 🇱🇧

The owners came to Mérida from Lebanon several years ago, and that authenticity is part of what makes Tarbush so special. You’ll often hear the pop family speaking Arabic to one another while you eat—and maybe you can convince them to teach you a word or two!

For us, their kibbeh is some of the best in town. This time we had creamy hummus and smoky baba ganoush, crispy fried kibbeh and freshly baked fatayer—one filled with spinach and another with a delicious mixture of cheeses.

We also tried mujadara, that wonderfully comforting combination of lentils and rice, and a Lebanese-style chicken and rice dish fragrant with warm spices such as cinnamon, allspice and cardamom. It’s the kind of simple, aromatic comfort food that makes you want another spoonful.

And save room! Finish with one of their traditional Lebanese sweets and a strong Arabic coffee scented with cardamom. ☕️

You can eat there or stop in and pick up a quick, fresh meal to take home—which is something I do often when I want an easy lunch or dinner.

🌟 For hot dishes, it’s a good idea to call ahead so they can have your order ready.
🌟 English is spoken.

MID City on Excursion to La Ventana in

Absolutely stunning water in the Gulf of California and views on Isla Cerralvo in this small dessert beach town of La Ventana about an hour from La Paz.

It’s low season, few people are here, some restaurants closed and we share the beach with only a handful of people. It’s been hot! But a dip in the water cures all.
The Cardon cacti 🌵feel nostalgic as if we are in an old western Mexican movie. They dot the hills along the drive from La Paz, stretch across the beaches and cover Isla Cerralvo.

We went out to fish this morning and got some gorgeous Mahi-mahi 🐠 that our captain is grilling up as I write this 😋

Have to say I’m quite in love with

If you live in Mérida, this is one local app we think is worth knowing about!

DaleGo is a free app designed to connect people in Mérida with trusted local businesses and service providers.

What I like about this app is that it gives you a place to find people and businesses for the things you actually need around town, while also being able to see recommendations from others in the community.

So whether you need someone for something around the house, are looking for a particular service, or simply want to discover more local businesses, it’s a helpful resource to have on your phone. And at the same time, it’s another nice way to support people doing business right here in Mérida.
