Probably my favorite stop we made in the Sacred Valley, this is the town of Pisac known for its market stalls and oh man did I spend some soles here 😅 but the shop owners were so nice! I was looking for a bracelet made from serpentina (the green stones found only in this region) and they asked around to each other to help me find the perfect one 🥹🙌🏼 I would say a visit to Peru isn’t complete without stopping here!

Saqsayhuaman (or “sexy woman” as the locals will tell you to pronounce it) is an archeological site just above the city of Cusco. Here, you’ll find the biggest monoliths in the country (!!) and some pretty impressive views! I’d highly recommend hiring a guide to take you through the various sites since there isn’t a lot of info about them posted. It’s 70 soles (about $20usd) to enter and worth it for the amount of time you can spend here! Plus, you might get lucky and see this cute herd of llamas like we did 🤭

Snaps from Cusco 📸

There’s so much to see in this historic city, but I’ll share just a few of my recommendations from our time here:

For breakfast/brunch, Jack’s Cafe was delicious and the building itself is gorgeous.

Saqsaywaman is an archeological site just above the city and takes 3-4 hours to explore. Entry is 70 soles (cash or card) and is better done with a guide to explain the importance of each site.

The Mercado San Pedro is where you’ll find all the best souvenirs, local snacks, and anything else you can imagine.

The neighborhood of San Blas is incredibly charming, with interesting boutique shops and restaurants, as well as street art that belongs in a museum.

Mirador de Sán Cristobal is the best place to see just how big this city actually is. Amazing views that make you wonder how they built this incredible place, and great for photo ops.

Save for your trip to Peru! 📌

I think I fell in love with Cusco even before the plane landed 🤭 When visiting Saqsaywaman, an archeological site above the city, you get these incredible view of rolling green hills and the charming city center in the middle of it all ⛰️🛕

In the Sacred Valley, many of the towns are constructed in the shapes of animals and we learned Cusco is a puma! The architecture here is so beautiful and there’s a magic energy that fills the streets ✨ No trip to Peru is complete without visiting this impressive city!

📍Alameda Chabuca Granda

This park in the historical center of Peru is a great place to try local street food like anticuchos (cow hearts marinated in spices, oil, and vinegar yum 😅), arroz con leche (sweet and creamy rice pudding), and picarones (made with sweet potato and squash and drizzled with syrup made from raw sugarcane) 🍩

The street food in Lima was excellent and full of flavor! Definitely be careful when choosing where to eat, but our tour director let us know this is a great place for locals and tourists alike to sample some of Lima’s specialties 🐟
