Tortured and poisoned: the case of the death of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes at the hands of his father and stepmother

Arthur Labinjo-Hughes was a 6-year-old boy who lived in Solihull, England. In early 2020, following the incarceration of his birth mother, custody of the little boy fell exclusively with his father, Thomas Hughes. Shortly after, Hughes decided to move into the residence of his new partner, Emma Tustin. The arrival of national lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 isolated Arthur from school and his closest relatives, leaving him entirely at the mercy of the couple in a home environment that turned hostile in a matter of weeks.

During the months of lockdown, Tustin and Hughes subjected Arthur to a ruthless regime of physical and psychological punishment. The boy was forced to stand in the hallway of the house up to 14 consecutive hours a day without being able to sit or move his arms. He was restricted from access to water and regular food, while administering massive doses of table salt in the food to cause nausea and severe discomfort. Arthur's paternal grandmother managed to see the boy during a short visit, noticed bruises on his back and took photographs which he immediately presented to Solihull Social Services. However, after a superficial inspection at the home, social workers closed the file stating there were "no reasons for concern."

On June 16, 2020, while Thomas Hughes was outside the house shopping, Emma Tustin savagely assaulted Arthur in the living room, causing him non-accidental craneoencephalic trauma. Instead of calling for help right away, Tustin waited 12 minutes before calling an ambulance, which he used to photograph the injured child on the ground and send the image to Hughes. When paramedics arrived, Tustin lied claiming that the minor had self-injured himself by throwing himself to the ground. Arthur passed away in hospital the next day due to the severity of his brain contusions.

The definitive key to the case emerged when police seized and analyzed the couple's cell phones. On the devices they found more than 200 audio and video files recorded by Emma Tustin herself, in which Arthur could be heard crying inconsolably, begging for some water and repeating phrases like "nobody wants me". Thousands of text messages were also recovered between Tustin and Hughes where the latter authorizing violent punishments and instructing his partner on how to intimidate the child.
In December 2021, Emma Tustin was found guilty of murder and multiple counts of child cruelty, being sentenced to life with a minimum sentence of 29 years in prison. Thomas Hughes was initially sentenced to 21 years for involuntary manslaughter and child cruelty, a shame that the UK Court of Appeal subsequently raised to 24 years in prison given the brutality of the events.

The latest customer of the Taqueria

It was already quite late when an order went out for Ms. Juana, in the taqueria where I work.

I didn't really like taking those orders because her house was quite far away and besides, Mrs. Juana was an old lady who always gave us anise candy as a tip instead of money.

Still it was my turn and had to go.

When I got to the home, I clearly heard the old woman's voice asking me to pass.

I don't usually go into clients' homes, but since I knew Ms. Joan was an elderly person, I assumed she might have a hard time getting out.

So I got off my bike, grabbed my taco bag and walked to the door.

When I got there, I tried to open it, but it was closed.

Then I touched the lady and shouted:

—Ms. Joan, the door has security.

At that moment, I clearly heard someone taking out insurance.

The door opened slowly.

I thought the lady would show up in front of me, so I started telling her what she was wearing on the order and how much she had to pay.

But nobody came out.

The door was just open.

— Mrs. Joan?

I didn't get a response.

I called her back as she walked a few steps into the house.

-Ms. Joan, are you there?

No one responded.

The first thing I noticed was a really strange smell. It was like chlorine mixed with some strong chemical that I couldn't identify.

The house was a complete mess.

There were things thrown on the ground, some open drawers and several objects out of their place.

For some reason, I got the feeling that someone had walked in there and caused all this mess.

I kept walking while calling the old lady.

Until I got to the door of a room.

I touched a couple of times.

Then I heard Mrs. Joan's voice from the other side.

—Pasa.

I was about to open the door when something made me stop.

I looked at the handle.

I was covered in blood.

Instantly I felt the chills.

I no longer cared about the order or the money.

I just wanted out that house.

I turned around to leave, but then I heard the old woman's voice again.

This time she sounded much more desperate.

—Don't leave me here, please... happens.

I didn't pay attention to her.

Left the house and called the cops.

While I waited, I stayed outside for several hours.

And even though I was terrified, there was something I couldn't stop looking at.

The house.

When it began to get dark, the lights inside turned on.

And then I saw something move behind one of the windows.

It was a silhouette.

The silhouette of a woman walking inside the house.

She looked like Mrs. Joan.

I thought several times about coming in but decided to wait for the police to get there.

Finally a patrol showed up

They dropped two officers and I explained everything that had happened.

They didn't seem to believe me too much at first.

After all, from the outside you could see that there was movement inside the house.

Still, they decided to come in to check that the old woman was okay.

The door was still open.

The lights were on.

I told them the room where I had seen the blood and the cops walked there.

One of them put his hand on the handle.

She opened it slowly.

And as soon as the door opened, the smell of chlorine became much stronger.

Inside the room was the body of Mrs. Juana.

It was covered in lime and around it were several bottles of chlorine thrown on the ground.

Watching that made me dizzy.

The smell was unbearable.

Quickly stepped out of the house for a breath of fresh air.

But I had barely taken a few steps when I felt someone put a hand on my shoulder.

I thought he was one of the cops.

Until I heard a voice behind me.

—Thank you.

It was Ms. Juana's voice.

I fell to the ground and fainted.

When I woke up, there was a paramedic beside me.

A few meters away from me, two men were pulling out Mrs. Joan's body on a stretcher.

I was completely stunned watching this scene.

So, while the men were lifting the stool, one of the old woman's arms was hanging on one side.

And something fell to the ground.

They were two anise candy.

The same sweets that Ms. Juana always gave us as a tip instead of money.

I didn't wait for anyone to tell me anything.

Got up, ran up to my bike, and drove out of that place full speed.

To this day I don't know who opened that door.

I don't know who turned the lights on either...

Let alone who was walking inside that house.

Credit to whom it may concern.

No obtuve respuesta.

Credito a quien corresponda.

The teenager found in a suitcase: the heinous crime of a tourist in Pattaya

Pattaya is a city of dazzling lights and massive tourism, but by the end of June 2026 it became the scene of a crime that horrified Thailand. On the bank of the train tracks, hidden among the weeds, rested an oversized black suitcase. When authorities opened it, they discovered the lifeless body of Tunchanok Donhomla, a Thai teenager aged just 17.

Forensic analysis confirmed a violent death: suffocation induced after receiving a severe blow to the head that caused craneoencephalic trauma.

The key to the case was recorded in the security cameras of a local condominium. Footage showed the moment Tunchanok entered the building accompanied by Simon Peter Carman, a 45-year-old Australian tourist. Hours later, the same cameras captured a terrifying scene: Carman walked out of the apartment completely alone, forcefully dragging the heavy suitcase where the young woman's co**se was carrying. Cool calmly, he accommodated the lump on a motorcycle and went into the dark to get rid of it.

After abandoning the body next to the railway, the tourist made a desperate escape to Bangkok with the intention of taking a flight and returning to Australia before being discovered. However, the Thai police acted swiftly. Carman was directly intercepted and arrested at Suvarnabhumi International Airport just as he was about to board the plane.

In interrogations, the detainee tried to shield himself under the argument of a "self-defense" after a heated argument over money. However, the pre-meditation, recordings and his attempt to escape dismantled his version. Currently, Carman remains incarcerated in a Thai prison prosecuted for murder and concealing a co**se, crimes for which he faces the death penalty or life sentence.

A chilling photograph exposes the secret of a kidnapping 25 years ago following the abduction of a girl.

A girl who was kidnapped in broad daylight when she was three grew up believing her kidnappers were her real parents, until a single photograph revealed the truth decades later.

Juana disappeared in the afternoon from a park in Mexico City. Her mother, Lorena Ramirez, spent 24 years refusing to lose hope of reuniting with her daughter.

Lorena had taken her three children to Chapultepec Forest, one of the largest parks in the city, accompanied by her husband and sister-in-law, when Joana was kidnapped.

The family was saying goodbye when little Joana suddenly disappeared. Juana, who later adopted the name Rocío, recalls feeling someone grab her by the waist while her parents briefly released her, and afterwards waking up in an unfamiliar house, according to Vox.

When Joan was kidnapped, her captors assigned her a new identity and age, claiming her birthday was the day of her kidnapping, October 1, 1995, instead of her actual birthdate, June 16, three years earlier, according to the Daily Star.

Years after Juana's kidnapping, neighbors of her captors informed the then girl that the people she lived with were not her biological parents.
Following a confrontation, her alleged mother assured Juana that she had adopted her after finding her wandering alone in Mexico City's Chapultepec Forest.

Juana claimed that those who separated her from her mother treated her "badly", which prompted her to flee home at just 17 years old to live with who is now her husband. Rocio's husband encouraged her to investigate cases of missing girls in the region in order to find her biological family.

What he discovered chilled his blood. While checking a missing persons record, he came across a photograph of a girl who kept a striking resemblance to her when she was young.

"The physical resemblance was so great that I thought, 'I'm that girl,'" he recalled. However, having no contact details, he admitted: "Another eight years passed before I decided to look for my family."

Determined to take letters on the matter, Rocío published a photograph of herself on the internet in the hope of finding her biological relatives. The image caught the attention of Maria José, one of the daughters of Lorena, Rocío's biological mother, who recognized the photo of her beloved Juana on social networks.
The photograph had been uploaded by Rocío, who was 30 years old at that time. Realizing the connection, Maria José contacted her and began to communicate online, finally managing to conclude the long-awaited reunion between Rocio and his biological mother.

Following her emotional encounter, Lorena reflected: "I lost a three-year-old girl and found a woman in her thirties." "I didn't live those stages of her life; it's a part of her that was taken from me."

Visibly moved, she continued: "Imagine, I suffered terribly for 27 years."

Lorena later told the local press: "I couldn't believe it. When I opened the door, I stopped and she walked in. That hug after 27 years.
He saw me and said, 'You are my mother'. I answered, 'Yes, and you are my daughter.' "Thank you for the opportunity to see you again."

Me vio y me dijo: 'Eres mi madre'.

The Heartbreaking Case of Thomas Valva.

An autistic child frozen in garage and school ignored for yearsThomas Valva was an 8-year-old boy diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder who lived in Center Moriches, New York. Following a complex divorce process, legal custody fell on her father, Michael Valva, an active NYPD officer.
Shortly after, Michael brought his new fiancée, Angela Pollina, and their daughters to live at the home. What on the outside appeared to be the tidy home of a public servant, on the inside transformed into a regime of severe punishments aimed almost exclusively against Thomas and his older brother.

At the elementary school he attended, the teachers immediately detected the alarm signs. Thomas and his brother came to class dressed in dirty clothes, the smell of urine, and desperate greed. Several teachers recorded reports where children searched for crumbs directly in school trash cans for food. The institution sent multiple formal alerts to child protective services notifying malnutrition and signs of abuse.
However, whenever social workers tried to investigate, Michael Valva's police officer status slowed progress. The complaints ended up being filed one after the other while the system preferred to rely on the father's word.
On the night of January 16, 2020, temperatures in New York dropped below zero. As punishment for an accident related to his autistic condition, Thomas was forced to sleep on the concrete floor of the house's garage, a space with no heating or coat. The next morning, seeing the boy couldn't stand up because of the freezing, his father took him out to the yard to soak him in ice water. Noticing Thomas was collapsing and going into a standstill, Valva called 911 inventing the story of the fall in the street.

The investigation took a definitive turn when judicial police seized the home's Nest security camera system. Footage showed Thomas lying around in the garage unable to move, while audios recorded how both his father and stepmother mocking him and refusing to lend help as the child agonized.

In November 2022, Michael Valva was found guilty of second-degree murder and endangering a juvenile serving 25 years to life in prison. In March 2023 Angela Pollina was sentenced under the same charges to a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

The disturbing case of the suitcase girl who terrorized Paris.

Danger doesn't always wait for you on a dark street or in a lonely place. Sometimes the greatest threat walks beside you in the place you feel safest.

On October 14, 2022, in the 19th district of Paris, Lola Daviet, just 12 years old, left school to return home. The building where she lived was familiar to her: her father worked there as a janitor. He walked through the front door, but never made it to his apartment door.

They were barely 20 minutes late when her family began searching for her unarmed by distress.
Upon checking the building's security cameras, police discovered a disturbing scene: Lola had entered the hallway accompanied by an unknown 24-year-old woman, named Dahbia B.

Hours after the disappearance, cameras caught Dahbia walking around the area carrying several lumps and a large transparent plastic box. He asked passers-by for help to move her in exchange for money, acting in a bewildering tranquility.

Late at night, a homeless man found the abandoned transparent container in the courtyard of the same building. Inside her was Lola's lifeless body.
The autopsy revealed that the minor suffered severe physical aggression. In addition, on the base of her feet the aggressor had written the numbers "1" and "0", a detail that to date baffles criminal analysts.

Dahbia Benkired was arrested within hours of the crime. Although the defense attempted to claim mental issues, psychiatric examinations determined that he was fully aware of his actions. The Paris Court sentenced her to life in prison without the possibility of parole, becoming the first woman in French history to receive the harshest punishment in the criminal code.
The case not only shocked an entire country by the brutality of the attack, but by the most uncomfortable lesson of all: Lola was just a stretch of stairs away from her parents' arms.
