Most police officers in Mexico are good, honest professionals, and many city governments — especially in tourist areas — are working hard to stop corruption. Still, as anywhere in the world, a few may try to take advantage of their authority. That’s where knowing your rights makes the difference.

🚔 The reality: traffic stops usually play out in one of three ways:
1️⃣ A simple warning.
2️⃣ A fine at the police station (comandancia) — always pay at the official window with a receipt, not in a backroom. (Bonus tip: most stations, including Rocky Point, now accept credit/debit cards.)
3️⃣ Pressure to pay on the spot (a bribe).

👉 What you should do:
• 😌 Stay calm and respectful at all times. Greet with a smile — you’re already lawyered up.
• 🚘 Stay in your car — you are not required to exit for a search. Most stops are only infractions.
• 🆔 Ask for credentials and vehicle number. Don’t push the issue — your attorney will also ask.
