We don’t go hiking without this (AD) 🌞👚

After hiking for 10-plus years, we’ve learned a thing or two about staying safe and comfortable on the trail.

Our favorite parks, and the titles we gave them:

🥾 Hiking: Zion National Park
Canyon Overlook, the Narrows, Observation Point. So much variety.

🐻 Wildlife: Katmai Nat'l Park & Preserve
We camped at Brooks Camp for 3 nights. You’re in the bears’ space, not the other way around.

💛 Overall Experience: GrandCanyonNPS
Helicopters, backpacking, rafting. So many ways to see one park.

🌅 Sunrise: Arches National Park + Canyonlands National Park
Couldn’t pick one. Light on red rock, spilling into the canyon.

📜 History: Mesa Verde National Park
We took 3 cliff dwelling tours because 1 wasn’t enough.

✨ Dark Skies: Bryce Canyon National Park
Up at 3 am for the Milky Way over the canyon. Worth it.

🎒 Backpacking: Isle Royale National Park
90’s summer camp vibes. Zero cell service, boat or seaplane only.

🌇 Sunsets: Saguaro National Park
Arizona sunsets are on another level. IYKYK.

🐋 Goosebumps: Kenai Fjords National Park
Humpback whales, then the largest icefield entirely within the US.

🪩 Feeling Like A Kid: Rocky Mountain National Park
Waterfalls, wildlife, and the best Junior Ranger program yet.

👽 Otherworldly Vibes: Carlsbad Caverns National Park
Straight out of a sci-fi movie, and the Big Room is massive.

🏝️ Island Vibes: Biscayne National Park
We visited in our own boat and swam in crystal-clear water.

🤏 Feeling Small: Wrangell-St. Elias Nat'l Park
The largest park, seen from the air. Humbling in the best way.

🛶 Water Activities: Voyageurs National Park
Canoes, campfires, and a houseboat with a waterslide and hot tub.

👀 Underrated: Big Bend National Park
Dark skies, hot springs, desert vibes, incredible camping.

We should have installed this day one 🫨

The first clips were from earlier this year, just outside of Sagauro National Park. We had our jars of granola break, soap went everywhere, it was a disaster. It was this day that we realized we needed to do something about our van’s sideways roll on uneven terrain.

What I didn’t realize was how simple the fix would be…

I installed the Timbren SES AEON springs in our friends’ cul-de-sac in literally one hour and 27 minutes, less than 90 minutes. And, perhaps more impressively, we upgraded our suspension with only the tools in the back of our van!

We had two portages to choose from; we chose poorly 😅

On our long day trip to Johnson Falls in the Boundary Waters, we had two portages to choose from to get into the next lake.

One was to the North and one was to the South. We chose to go North because it was slightly more favorable to the winds, but we didn’t realize what we were getting ourselves into.

The portage was steep and cluttered with falling trees. We couldn’t carry the canoes on our backs because of all the obstructions.

We honestly almost turned around at the portage, but we decided to continue and it was quite the adventure 😂

On the way back we took the other portage, and it was flat, short and incredibly easy 😂😂😂

Looking for the ultimate day trip in the Boundary Waters? 🕵️‍♀️

This 8-hour route out of West Bearskin Lake packs in paddling, waterfalls, and scenic cliff views.

1️⃣ Start at Clearwater Outfitters (and check out their historic lodge).

2️⃣ Here’s the Route:
* Paddle 2.5 mi on West Bearskin Lake
* 0.3 mi portage to Duncan Lake
* Paddle 1.3 mi to Rose Lake Portage.
3️⃣ Walk to Rose Lake Falls for lunch and a quick rest.

4️⃣ Take the 60 portage stairs down to Rose Lake, or hike the Border Route Trail toward Rose Cliffs (3.6 mi round-trip, 800 ft elevation) for views overlooking Canada.

5️⃣ Paddle back the same route
