Lava Falls was formed when molten rock blocked the mighty Colorado River in the distant past. This backed up the river all the way to Moab, Utah. When the Colorado River finally wore through, it eroded to the massive rapids they are today.

I may be biased, but although there are no bad views in the Grand Canyon, the views from the Colorado River are the best.

Crystal Rapid has a storied history in the Grand Canyon. Famous for the most ☠️ rapid of the Grand Canyon, Crystal was a “down-and-in” for the crew. It was very important to give Finger (our guide) an unobstructed view of the rapids. Even though river rafting is inherently risky (we even passed a private tour with a packer who had a broken leg), we felt calm knowing our guides were highly experienced. Finger had over 50 runs down the Canyon, and Jared, our trip leader, had over 150! They guided us through every rapid with a professional sense of focus and determination.

This wasn’t the rapid with the biggest drop on the Colorado River; that rapid is still downstream. Let us know if you want to see what riding this rapid looks like!
