At Roga, we are working on a new publication based on this poem by the artist Violette Bule, which you can find at booth from May 15 to 18 at Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair 2025.
Being for Others is a participatory project that began as a 2021 poem exploring identity, displacement, and belonging. Rooted in the question “Am I a Venezuelan in diaspora?”, it involved 70 collaborators and translations into 22 languages, creating a collective reflection on exile and shared memory. Both personal and communal, the work examines how individuals navigate the politics of belonging in a world shaped by upheaval. It serves as a reminder of our shared humanity during a time of growing polarization. At its broadest, Being for Others opens a space for multiplicity—a platform for layered perspectives shaped by disorientation, displacement, and contested identity. The project reimagines identity as a relational force grounded in mutual recognition and the complexities of coexistence.
