Does PROFEPA (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection) not know that dumping stagnant rainwater, full of mud and foul odor, directly into the sea is also a form of pollution?
If PROFEPA came looking for excrement and found nothing, it's because, according to CIP-Huatulco (Huatulco Intervention Center), what was dumped into the sea was stagnant, muddy, and foul-smelling rainwater, the result of dredging work on a clogged drain.
Although rainwater itself is relatively clean, when it stagnates and mixes with other elements, it accumulates various pollutants before reaching the ocean, potentially carrying bacteria and dangerous viruses. The foul odor is not just a nuisance: it's a sign of biological processes that affect human health and marine life.
Where does environmental protection stand when dumping waste into the sea becomes normalized?
Who is responsible for the impacts on coastal ecosystems and the tourism image of Huatulco Bays?
The community deserves clear answers and responsible action. It's not about finding someone to blame, but about demanding that institutions fulfill their function: to protect the environment, not to justify its deterioration.
