Chevrolet offered the car with several versions of its potent 283-cubic inch V8 engine, including dual-carburetor and Rochester fuel-injected options. The top-of-the-line 290-horsepower version pushed the Corvette firmly into sports car territory, rivaling many European competitors in both acceleration and handling. Paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, it delivered a thrilling, visceral driving experience.
