As a broadcaster engineer it’s not bad being typecast working mainly on the WTA tournaments.
I was just having a quick look back at what I have done this year so far. A lot of venues are repeats for me now and know where all the cables go, even to the weird places you find the fibre pickup points.
Hope the rest of the year continues to be busy… but who knows in the Freelance world.

Consultation work was something I hadn’t considered before, but the opportunity came up at the end of last year. Due to a non-disclosure, I can’t say much, but I personally enjoyed the process. Researching comparing and then analysing my customers requirements with the offers from various suppliers. The only way to describe the process is comparing Dr Brown fluxes capacitor with McFly Fluxes capacitor both do the same thing both will give you what you want and future proof my clients needs, but which one is the best fit(?). Dr brown has experience and wisdom and Mcfly has the go to everything’s possible in attitude. It took a while to whittle down the correct fit but got there in the end. So, my client has the best Flux capacitor for their requirements. I found the process enjoyable and I personally learned a lot about flux capacitors. Hopefully in the future I will be able to do some more consultation work.

I saw a post recently asking whether freelancers actually get work through LinkedIn.
At the beginning of this year, my calendar was completely empty—which, understandably, was a bit alarming. In previous years, I typically had bookings lined up 3 to 6 months in advance. So, I reached out to both regular and occasional clients to check in and see what was happening.
To my surprise, several of them responded with:
"Oh, we assumed you were busy—you’re always posting about different jobs, so we didn’t want to bother you."
That was a real eye-opener. I decided to stop posting for a while and focus instead on reconnecting directly with people. (Thankfully, my calendar is now looking much healthier.)
But just a few days ago, I started receiving messages like:
"Hey, are you OK? Haven’t seen any updates from you lately."
So now, I’m working on finding a better balance with social media—enough to stay visible, but not so much that it gives the impression I’m unavailable.
Does social media work for freelancers?
Yes—but it all depends on how you use it.

It’s been a very busy few months, from Guadalajara in Mexico to various locations in China. Amazing cultural differences but thanks to support of great teams of people it’s been a fun few months.
Also 3 of the 4 events I got to work along side a good friend which I really enjoyed.
Now home for a bit of a break…well until another job comes in 😉

Today in Guadalajara we had a later start at the tennis, so took the opportunity to do a little site seeing. I had a wonder around in Tlaquepaque.

That’s another Olympics done. It’s been fun, interesting, stressful but in general it’s been great to work with fantastic colleagues and friends. LA2028 next 🤔
