A mid-crisis pupdate from Saint Vincent's Home Guadalajara .
To our dear pals & benefactors:
I just finished sending out my mid September pupdate yesterday.
Unfortunately, we received no donations over the weekend.
On Saturday my costco membership card expired and I had 6,000 points credit from the past years purchases. That equals 6,000 pesos.
6,000 pesos equals 8 fifty pound bags of food. That is enough for 1 ½ days of food.
So, we ran out of food today.
With no food, no money, No luck, the bank is down to $23 in the account.
No workers showed up today. So that left me alone to deal with all of this as the dogs are hungry and becoming more aggressive. They say where there is life, there is hope.
There is very little life or hope here today.
We lost two of our better donors last month, apparently because one of our enemies, possibly a former disgruntled volunteer from years before or other jealous person slandered me to these two people. One accused me of running a concentration camp for dogs. This person lives in the city here and has never visited our place even after numerous requests to do so. She never met me or spoke on the phone. She always expressed concern for our dogs and me. Suddenly she went nuts and sent a nasty email saying she will no longer help our mission with vile accusations.
I do the best I can with what little I got.
The other person accused me of using different names and I that I was a horse doctor in Arizona. I looked up Lawrence Smith in Tucon Arizona, and there is a Dr. Lawrence Smith who is a horse doctor, but its not me. That person made no sense at all, and I think she is either losing her marbles or was on drugs.
I have had similar crazy things happen here over the past 25 years I have been running this home for dogs and we always get past it and things always get better. Its just when things seem to be going well, that something crazy like this always happens when we least expect it.
Anyway, to make a long story even longer, We need your help to be able to get food tomorrow and for the week.
We still have around 200 dogs in our care. I owe the vet for one spaying last week, and our Border Collie is in heat this week and goes into the clinic on thursday for the same spaying surgery.
If I dont pay these vet bills, the vet will not provide the services needed.

Hi friends and fellow dog lovers,
Just when I finished sending out and posting my epistle for August, a whole bunch of stuff came up that I felt I needed to write about and keep you informed.
I thought our water crisis and the lack of water was over. Yesterday and today the water was not coming in from the street. I will see tomorrow if it is turned back on, otherwise, I will have to resort to buying another tanker truck of water for 900 pesos, called a p**a.
We ran out of food today and I had to go running to Sam's club to buy a few bags more food with what little money I had left in the bank. I had to give our workers IOU's for the past couple of days in order to keep the dogs fed.
There wasnt a great response to my epistle this past week, so only a few donations came in to be able to buy the food. We ran out of the medicine to treat several of our dogs for erliquia. The bank account is empty as of today , so I cant get any medicine to continue their treatment.
Another little dog was pregnant, and we were not able to find anyone to foster her or the other dogs with puppies. She had 6 puppies. Four are left. Two didnt last. We ran out of safe places to keep the momas with puppies, so, she is in my room in the corner by the table lamp on a blanket keeping the puppies safe. I dont have a lot of photos now.
Today a man and his wife came asking me to take a Husky moma and 8 puppies. They said they couldnt keep them. I asked them to bring food. Most of the time people say they will, but often never do. Anyway, to make a long story even longer, we have the puppies and the moma, but she is separate from the puppies because the people said that she stopped feeding and caring for the puppies. So, they are separate. See the photos taken a few hours ago of the people bringing the moma and puppies. They are beautiful. In the photos are Polet and her sister Jimena who work here. The old geezer is me. I wish someone could help foster care for some of the many puppies we have right now. One of our large dogs went into surgery last week because of a dislocated leg from the hip. She may be coming back tomorrow. I have to pay 3,000 pesos for that surgery and hospital care for the week. That is about $160 USD. Today I took one of our other large dogs to the clinic to be spayed. She was in heat . It will cost around $100 USD for this surgery . Money we dont have. We have to get as many of our females spayed as possible to keep from having so many more puppies. Anyone interested in adopting or fostering some of our dogs, please send me an email at [email protected]. Please do not use Meta business suite on facebook. I wish Mr. Zuckerberger would get rid of that feature. It really is terrible. I like messenger, but often its hard to get messenger and the office suite keeps coming up instead. I noticed in google search that a lot of people are also complaining about Meta office suite and want to get rid of it. Not easy to do.
So, here I will explain how you can help with a donation if you are so inclined.
Donations can be sent by paypal to [email protected].
OR www.fundrazr.com/stvincentshome. This is like GoFundMe.
If you are in Mexico, you can make a donation online to our CLABE # 030320076518002012 . Bandelbajio. Lawrence G. Smith. We have IRS tax ID exemption 501 C 3, for US taxpayers , Your donation can be tax deductible.
If you recently won the state lottery and dont know what to do with all that loot and would like to help our humble mission, please send a wire transfer or check directly to our US bank so that we arent charged a large fee by paypal. Send me an email at [email protected] for further details on how to accomplish this.
Visitors are welcome to stop by and say hi to our doggies with an appointment. We need donations of cleaning supplies. Mops, squeegees, laundry detergent, Clorox, swavitel, brooms, newspapers or large rolls of paper etc. We need more adoptions. At this time, we cannot receive any more big dogs. We are full to capacity. Please share this epistle with your pals.
Both our washing machines arent working, due to lack of water pressure from the street. I tried using public laundries, but they told me not to come anymore because of the hairs or smell from the doggies blankets and my clothes. So we need to get some help to make our washers work. All the little dog houses made over 6 years ago are falling apart. We need a carpenter to help make a few new ones. All the chain link fencing is also falling apart. Right now, we really need help with money to buy the food we need every day.
Thanks to our regular friends who always help.
Those who help us with their good karma will always be blessed many times over. I believe this.
God bless you and your families.
Sincerely in His Service,
Lawrence

NOTICE:
For those who try to phone us, we do NOT answer the phone any more.
The reasons for this are several:
When the phone rings, the dogs bark so loud it is impossible to hear anyone.
We get several daily prank calls from some deranged person.
There is a problem with out phone line which has a lot of static.
If you want to speak on the phone, you must send an email or a note through FB messenger. Include your name, phone and reason for call.
Too many people call every day wanting to give us more dogs. Mostly pit bulls. We cannot take more dogs. We are full to capacity. Please do not refer others to us wanting to get rid of their dogs. We cannot take more dogs.
Please share this with your pals. thanks

Well friends, It seems my monthly encyclicals are fading into obscurity.
We have not been receiving nearly enough financial help as we need. I dont think very many people are reading it or receiving it.
It seems my hot mail account has been deleting a few email addresses each month. I dont know why or what is causing this. If you used to receive this email each month and are not now, please let me know. It will be shared on facebook for all to see.
Im including a few quotes from some famous characters in history, since I like history and they had something to say which I find useful.
Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated. Im still here.
As I have been saying in my last few epistles, the city has been turning off the water in the entire neighborhood, possibly to repair a water pump that sends the water into each house.
This week I called a friend who works in city hall and asked her about this problem, and I found out that the past few weeks the city cut off my water and I have been buying water each week from a water tanker. I had problems with the water company for a few years when they didnt fix the outside water meter on our house. So now they got around to shutting off our water and our cistern is dry again. I must pay 9,000 pesos , which is around $500 usd, to get the water turned back on. It is difficult enough to raise money each week to feed our 200 starving dogs, but this bill needs to be paid. The weather here is so hot, like a Dutch oven, we must have water. We still owe back rent on this property, two veterinarians need to be paid from a year ago, and our workers are holding a stack of IOU's from over a year ago.
It is my hope that I can pay all my debts to society before I kick the bucket.
To that end, Desperate times call for desperate measures .
In order to raise the funds needed to help pay off some of these debts, I am offering for sale my personal chalice & paten. I have had it for many years, tried to sell it privately, but no takers, so I am making it more available to all my fans and admirers. This Chalice was made by Gorham in the 1930's, Art Deco style, all sterling silver, all hand chased. One of the most important of three silversmiths in USA, Tiffany and Schieve. Comes with a carrying case. I hate to let it go, but we need the money. I would prefer it go to a priest, rather than a private collector. See the photos. As Oliver Goldsmith once said, "Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you know lies." Im asking $5,000 USD for this item. See the photos. Includes FEDEX shipping. Please share this with your pals.
All donations at tax deductible. We have IRS 501 3 c exemption.
Donations can be sent by paypal to [email protected].
OR www.fundrazr.com/stvincentshome.
If you are in MExico, on line to our CLABE #030320076518002012, Banco Del Bajio.
Im sorry I havent been able to write more exciting news. I have this constant brain fog from covid that makes me drowsy all the time. Im not able to think straight as I once could.
We have so many dogs available for adoption. Visitors are welcome by appointment. Come and see what we are doing to save and protect our dogs.
A friend of ours locally , has a thrift shop and sells all kinds of lovely items. She donates a portion of her sales to help buy dog food for our dogs. If you live in our area and have a lot of old stuff cluttering up your closets and garage, and would like to donate them to help us, we can receive all kinds of household furnishings, kitchen ware, books, and garden items. I am still looking for an old grand piano.
If you dont wish to receive this propaganda by email, just drop a note and you will be purged from our mailing list.
Thanks to our regular donors who always try to help us, despite their own personal problems. All donations, no matter how small, are always appreciated. Look for my next epistle in May. Thanks for taking the time to read this and share it with your pals.
Mazel tov.

Hey, its time for one of my video recommendations. Put a little culture in your life. Here is a famouse classic movie that has just been posted on youtube. This is a great musical not to be missed. Take a peek, you will love it:

On a South Pacific island during World War II, love blooms between a young nurse and a secretive Frenchman who's being courted for a dangerous military mission.

I spoke too soon. I first said we had no water because the City of Zapopan turned it off on saturday. Then yesterday afternoon the water came on again. But this morning the water is turned off again. Our cistern is dry and there is a little water left in the doggies pool to get us through the day.
To make matters worse, The CITY OF ZAPOPAN worker who picks up dead dogs, told me last friday they were not working. I would have to wait till monday, today. I called this morning and the guy said he will be by for the dead dog in one hour. Its now 1: 30 pm . I called and the guy said they are not working today and I have to wait till tomorrow. How would you like to bet when I call again tomorrow, I will be told he is not working again¿ Can you believe it¿, this exact thing happened the week before. This is living proof, we are lilving in a Third World Copuntry! Meanwhile we have to endure the smell of the dead dog for another day. We have no refrigeration. Our neighbors may make trouble if the dog isnt picked up.

24/03/2024

We discovered the city cut the water off in this neighborhood again. No water came in last night and the large pools we keep the water in is dry. There is no water coming in from the street. I may have to order a pippa water tanker to get water here again . Trying to call now. It will cost 800 ´pesos to fill our cistern. Polet called and spoke to the water person. They dont work on sunday. They will be working tomorrow.. I guess they will also be very busy tomorrow with the whole neighborhood without water.
