After Jason Newsted left, plenty wrote FLOTSAM AND JETSAM off as another band destined to disappear into the shadow of a giant. They didn’t. Instead, they sharpened their identity through sheer musicianship, restless songwriting, and a refusal to become yesterday’s news. The riffs stayed razor-edged, the rhythms remained technically fierce, and the band evolved beyond speed alone, bringing darker melodies, progressive touches, and a maturity that many of their peers never reached. There’s a resilience running through their catalogue that feels earned rather than manufactured, the sound of a band surviving on grit, chemistry, and absolute belief in what they do. They may have lost a future superstar, but what remained was a band determined to prove they were far more than a footnote in somebody else’s legend.
