Sharing a deeply personal project from the last 12 months.
In the last year, we have worked with and supported Cikgu Danial’s mission to bring media literacy to the Orang Asli students of SK RPS Banun.
Young people outside of the city should be given an opportunity to see themselves in the creative industry. There are photographers, filmmakers, writers, artists in every community. And giving them a chance to see themselves in that way is worth all the effort.
We would like to thank OPPO Malaysia for seeing the vision, and supporting this project with 10 smartphones.
With so little time for the programme, the students needed to learn how to tell their stories first, instead of being bogged down by technical challenges like learning how to wrestle with mirrorless cameras and complicated software. (Also we know how hard is it for institutions to maintain equipment for the long run). That’s where their contribution of 10 smartphones really helped the students hit the ground running.
