Smart Beekeeping with IoT: Helping Stingless Bee Farmers Thrive

Stingless bees are essential to our environment and food security — but keeping track of hive health can be tough, especially when the hives are far away or in large numbers.

To solve this, researchers have developed an IoT-based hive monitoring system that uses sensors to track bee activity in real time. The system counts how many bees go in and out of the hive and alerts beekeepers to any unusual drops in activity.

Using LoRa connectivity, the data is sent straight to a mobile app or web browser — no more frequent trips to each hive! This smart tech makes large-scale beekeeping more efficient and sustainable.

Helping Elderly Muslims Perform Prayers with Confidence

As Muslims age, remembering the number of rakaah, recitations, or even prayer times can become a challenge. To address this, a smart prayer mat has been developed and designed specially to assist elderly worshipers.

Using infrared and pressure sensors, the mat tracks prayer movements and ensures the correct Qibla direction. It also includes audio and visual cues to guide users through their prayers. Connected to the cloud via an Internet of Things (IoT) platform, this mat allows prayer data to be monitored through a user-friendly mobile app.

Tested over four days with an elderly user, the system proved to be both helpful and effective. A meaningful step forward in supporting spiritual routines through technology.
