📍 Seremban R&R surau becomes first in Malaysia to receive approval to hold Friday prayers following decision by Negeri Sembilan Fatwa Committee.

• The main reason Surau Madani received approval was the considerable distance to the nearest mosque, a Negeri Sembilan M***i said.

• "Sometimes, (workers in the area) can’t make it to the nearest mosque because it’s too far. We saw a genuine need and request for permission to hold Friday prayers here so workers would not miss their religious obligation," the m***i, Associate Professor Datuk Dr Faudzinaim Badaruddin said.

• The first Friday prayer was held on July 4.

📍🔴 "Israel's forever-occupation has become the ideal testing ground for arms manufacturers and Big Tech - providing significant supply and demand, little oversight, and zero accountability - while investors, private and public institutions profit freely.

Companies are no longer merely implicated in occupation. They may be embedded in an economy of genocide.

While life in Gaza is being obliterated and the West Bank is under escalating assault, the present report shows why the genocide carried out by Israel continues: because it is lucrative for many." - United Nations Human Rights Report

United Nations special rapporteur Francesca Albanese's latest report implicates 48 corporations, including Microsoft, Alphabet (Google's parent company), Amazon, Lockheed Martin, Airbnb and Booking. com for aiding Israel in the displacement and genocide against Palestinians.

📍🟡 “I am here to do my job. I never coveted it, but by the Grace of Allah SWT, I was entrusted to lead the Judiciary. I will not bend or bow to any person, no matter how high and mighty, to do what he or she demands of me," said Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat at the Opening of the Legal Year 2025 earlier this January.

"I think it is natural for anyone who has been through such an eventful period to feel wistful at the prospect of retirement. However, more than sadness, I feel an overarching sense of relief. I look forward to retirement, believing sincerely that I leave the Judiciary in a better place than when my colleagues and I began.”

Malaysia’s first female Chief Justice officially retired yesterday (1 July 2025), leaving behind a legacy of landmark rulings and steadfast defence of judicial independence.

Her time at the Federal Court spanned an unprecedented period: a global pandemic, four different Prime Ministers, and the imprisonment of Malaysia's first ex-PM Najib Razak.

Meanwhile, Vice President of the Malaysian Bar Council Anand Raj tells BFM the government's decision not to extend Tengku Maimun's contract as Chief Justice is creating a vacuum in the judicial system.
