She overcame hardship and now generates RM50K a month 🤩

Kamariah Md Yatim faced many challenges while providing for her children. In an interview, she shared that she leased and borrowed land until she was able to buy her own plot for her pandan farm. Today, she supplies pandan leaves to a factory, which brings in around RM50K a month.

Penang has officially nominated 10 of its traditional dishes to be gazetted as National Heritage under the National Heritage Department 🇲🇾

🍴 The 10 nominated dishes are:
1️⃣ Nasi Kandar
2️⃣ Pasembor
3️⃣ Hokkien Mee
4️⃣ Char Kue Kak
5️⃣ Mee Jawa
6️⃣ Oh Chien (Oyster Omelette)
7️⃣ Prawn Mee
8️⃣ Mee Sotong
9️⃣ Kerabu Bihun
🔟 Roti Benggali

According to Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee Chairman, Wong Hon Wai, “The nomination was recently submitted to the National Heritage Department and is currently undergoing evaluation before the dishes are officially recognised as National Heritage.”

He added that this effort is vital not only to preserve the state’s rich culinary heritage passed down through generations, but also to ensure Penang’s world-renowned gastronomy continues to be protected, promoted, and celebrated for future generations.

213 traditional dishes from various states and ethnic groups in Malaysia have been recognised as National Heritage, including Char Kuey Tiau, Kuih Angku, Pulut Tekan with Seri Kaya, Laksa, Pie Tee and Gerang Asam.
