EP66 | Salted Prawn + Live Bait Rig = MONSTER Predators! 🦈
The ultimate bait progression! 🦐🐟🦈 I started by using salted prawn meat to catch a small Yellowfin Snapper for live bait. Then, I hooked the Snapper onto my handmade, adjustable "Live Bait Rig" (featuring a sliding single hook and a treble hook at the end of the leader to fit any bait size).
Sent it out on a drift, and the ocean delivered! We smashed a massive Spanish Mackerel and a Barracuda. 🌊💪

EP65 | Apollo Sabiki + Salted Prawn Meat = Fish! 🎣
Testing out the ultimate fishing formula for EP65. I hand-tied my custom Apollo Sabiki hooks using flash tinsel and artificial fish skin, then rigged them onto a 3-branch leader. To make the rig unstoppable, I tipped the hooks with marinated salted prawn meat to combine a bright flash with a heavy umami scent trail. EP62 | Drop a salted prawn on a custom Y-Rig, and THIS happens...
Field testing the custom handmade Y-Rig (Snafu Rig) for some bottom fishing! The target today was Whiting, but if you drop a bait in the right strike zone, you never know what will hit. We ended up pulling up an awesome surprise: Sicklefish!

🦐 The Bait Secret: Why only use SALT?

For this trip, I strictly used salt to marinate the prawns. Here is why this is a game-changer for bottom fishing:
1. Toughens the Bait: The salt draws out the moisture, making the prawn meat firm and rubbery. It stays on the Y-Rig hooks much longer and stops smaller nuisance fish from easily stealing your bait.
2. Concentrates the Scent: By dehydrating the prawn, the natural flavours and amino acids become highly concentrated, drawing fish in from further away.

In EP61, I am breaking down how to make a killer Garlic Prawn Bait that fish simply cannot resist. For this recipe, I peel the body of the prawn but leave the tail unpeeled. When dropped into the water, that intact tail creates natural movement and flash, mimicking live prey and instantly attracting predatory fish.
But the real magic lies in our two simple ingredients: Rock Salt and Garlic Powder. Here is why this combination works so well:
Rock Salt (The Toughener): Fresh prawns can get soft and mushy quickly. Rock salt cures the prawn meat, drawing out excess moisture. This toughens up the bait, ensuring it stays firmly on your hook longer and resists getting easily picked apart by smaller bait-thieves.

To be fully transparent—yesterday was a slow, tough day on the water due to heavy wind, waves, and cloudy water. We only caught a handful of fish. BUT... look at what actually bit! Two gorgeous, premium groupers. 🎣✨
This proves exactly what this recipe is made for. The heavy, Belacan (fermented shrimp paste) aroma sinks straight to the bottom, filtering out the small bait-stealers and directly targeting predatory bottom-feeders. If you want grouper, this hand-made recipe is an absolute weapon. 🎯
