Enemies yesterday, friends today—healing changes hearts.
The zebra and the bulbul had never gotten along. She thought him loud and annoying; he thought her proud and humorless. Their paths crossed often, but never kindly.
Until the day pain humbled them both. The zebra, limping with parasites gnawing at her leg, could no longer run or graze in peace. She lowered her head in despair. That was when the bulbul appeared—not mocking, not laughing, but quietly determined.
He worked carefully, pulling out the worms that tormented her. Each peck was an act of courage; each moment of pain was followed by relief. Slowly, the zebra realized that the bird she once hated was the very one saving her.
When he finished, the zebra stood taller, the ache fading. She bent her head low, not to chase him away, but to thank him. The bulbul chirped softly, not in arrogance but in companionship.
From then on, they no longer met as rivals. The savannah whispered about them: the striped runner and the small singer, once enemies, now inseparable friends.
Their story spread, teaching others that even the deepest grudges can dissolve when kindness is chosen. For sometimes, healing the body also heals the heart.
