Negaraku II: Art, Identity, and the Many Faces of Malaysia
GEORGE TOWN, 4 AUGUST 2025 – What does it mean to be Malaysian? Negaraku II, now showing at Hin Bus Depot, Penang, dares visitors to explore that question through a powerful collection of contemporary Malaysian art.
Curated by Ivan Gabriel, the exhibition showcases around 60 works from the private collections of Bingley Sim and Ima Norbinsha. The pieces reflect decades of dedication to art that not only portrays Malaysia but also confronts its complexities — from migration and unity to everyday acts of kindness.
Building on last year’s Negaraku, this second edition expands the narrative, weaving together diverse voices and often-overlooked stories. “It’s about honouring every face and untold story that breathes life into this land,” says Gabriel.
Organised into thematic chapters, or bab, the exhibition journeys through pride, food, migration, and shared aspirations. Beyond the gallery walls, visitors can enjoy live food demonstrations of local favourites like Roti Jala and Nasi Ulam, turning the space into a feast for both the senses and the soul.
Supported by Yayasan Mr. D.I.Y. and Henry Butcher Art Auctioneers, Negaraku II runs from 1–31 August 2025. Admission is free.
