12-YEAR-OLD ROSHEN CHANDRASEKAR MAKES HISTORY — FROM SJK(T) CASTLEFIELD TO REPRESENTING MALAYSIA AT HIPPO INTERNATIONAL GRAND FINAL IN ITALY 🇲🇾🇮🇹
SELANGOR, MALAYSIA: At just 12 years old, Roshen Chandrasekar, a Year 6 student of SJK(T) Castlefield, Puchong, has built an extraordinary record spanning academics, STEM, innovation, English, mathematics, science, technology, chess, football, Tamil language and co-curricular activities.
His journey has now reached another major milestone as he prepares to represent Malaysia at the HIPPO International English Language Olympiad Grand Final 2026 in Italy.
RUNNER-UP IN PETALING PERDANA CO-CURRICULAR EXCELLENCE AWARD
Roshen recently added a prestigious district-level recognition to his growing list of accomplishments after emerging Runner-Up (Naib Johan) in the 2025 Co-Curricular Excellence Award – Primary School Male Student Category, organised by the Petaling Perdana District Education Office (PPD Petaling Perdana).
According to information provided by his family, the selection process involved 138 primary and secondary schools and approximately 2,000 students.
Roshen's achievement carries additional significance as he was reported to be the only Indian student to qualify and receive the award, as well as the only SJK(T) student to emerge as runner-up.
The recognition reflects not only his competition results but also his commitment to leadership and co-curricular development beyond the classroom.
FROM SELANGOR TO ITALY — REPRESENTING MALAYSIA 🇲🇾🇮🇹
Roshen's next challenge will take him from Selangor to the international stage.
After successfully progressing through the HIPPO International English Olympiad 2026 preliminary and semifinal stages, Roshen earned his place in the Grand Final in Italy.
He is scheduled to travel to Italy between 20 September and 5 October 2026, where he will have the opportunity to compete alongside young participants from around the world while proudly representing Malaysia.
His qualification marks an important chapter in a journey that has seen him consistently challenge himself at school, district, state, national and international levels.
51 COMPETITIONS AND INTERNATIONAL STEM SUCCESS IN 2024
Roshen's impressive competition journey was already evident in 2024, when he participated in 51 competitions covering English, mathematics, science, STEM, robotics, chess, sports, arts and culture.
His 2024 record included 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze awards, along with Distinction, Merit, Credit and Honorable Mention recognitions.
Among his standout achievements were Gold Awards at the World Young Inventors Exhibition (WYIE), World Youth STEM Innovation and Invention (WYSII), and International Science and Invention Fair (ISIF), together with additional special recognitions.
His 2024 portfolio recorded 55 certificates, 18 medals, two trophies, a plaque and a cash prize.
13 GOLD AWARDS AND 215 CERTIFICATES IN 2025
Roshen continued to raise the bar in 2025.
According to his 2025 PAJSK achievement record, he accumulated 13 Gold, 6 Silver and 8 Bronze recognitions, together with an impressive 215 certificates, 25 medals and a trophy.
At the Future Intelligence Student Olympiad (FISO), he secured Gold in English, Mathematics and Art, along with Silver in Digital Technology.
His mathematics achievements included recognition in SASMO, ASMO Mathematics, Tiger Maths Cup, Singapore Maths Challenge and MMIC 2025.
In English, he recorded Gold achievements through competitions including the ASMO English State Round, HIPPO English Final and ASMO English National Round.
A particularly significant achievement came in innovation when Roshen emerged Champion/Gold at the state-level Anugerah Inovasi Negeri Selangor (AINS) 2025, following his qualification through the district stage.
2026 — GOLD ACROSS MATHS, ENGLISH, STEM AND TECHNOLOGY
Roshen has continued his momentum throughout 2026.
In Mathematics, his achievements include Gold in GJMAT 2026, Gold in FISO Mathematics 2026 and Gold in SASMO 2026, together with Bronze in Tiger Maths.
He progressed through the Ramanujam Maths Competition from school to district, state and national level, eventually finishing 29th nationally.
In English, he secured Gold in FISO 2026 – English and progressed through the HIPPO Olympiad stages to qualify for the international Grand Final in Italy. He also advanced to the final stage of the English Spelling Bee 2026.
Roshen's Science, STEM and technology achievements include Silver in FISO Science, Gold in the International STEM Olympiad Final, Gold in ADEPT 2026 National Round, Gold in the National Digital Technology Olympiad (NADITEC) 2026 and Silver in FISO Technology.
EXCELLENCE BEYOND ACADEMICS
Roshen's abilities are not limited to examinations and Olympiads.
He has actively competed in chess, recording achievements including Bronze at Chess Mastercup 2026, Silver at the 24th and 25th Unity Chess Tournaments, third place at the XCRS National Chess Challenge and Gold at the Tamil Vizha Chess Competition.
His sporting achievements include helping secure second place in the Puchong Youth Cup Under-12 and becoming Champion in the Puchong Indians Annual Inter-Tournament 2026. He also participated in the MSSD Petaling Perdana football competition.
Roshen has also demonstrated his connection to Tamil language and culture by securing Gold at the 1st National Thirukkural Olympiad 2026.
Alongside his competition journey, he has taken on leadership responsibilities including serving as a school prefect, STEM committee member and team leader in international science and invention activities.
A YOUNG ACHIEVER WITH A BIG DREAM
Born on 9 June 2014 in Batu Caves, Selangor, Roshen is currently studying in Year 6 Ilanthamil at SJK(T) Castlefield, Puchong.
As the eldest of three siblings, he balances his academic interests with reading, chess and football.
Despite already achieving success in numerous fields, Roshen has another long-term ambition: to enter the medical profession and become a heart specialist.
His dream adds another meaningful dimension to a journey already defined by curiosity, discipline, competition and continuous learning.
From an SJK(T) classroom in Selangor to international STEM competitions, mathematics Olympiads, chess tournaments, football fields and now the HIPPO International Grand Final in Italy, Roshen Chandrasekar's journey demonstrates the potential of young Malaysian students when talent is supported by dedication and opportunity.
