Coast Flight • A short clip from a project done with the Coast Flight Training team. Coast Flight Training is a flight training centre in San Diego, CA. For this project we were given the opportunity to get up in the air and film the Cirrus SR22. Given the limits of the budget and equipment, we could not mount the camera outside of the plane. Instead, all shots were taken from the inside of a secondary plane. To deal with these limitations, we pre-planned the flight routes with the team at Coast Flight to get the best shots. Knowing that we were filming through the side window, the team at Coast Flight planned to have the camera plane be at a higher altitude, and also determined that the best opportunity to keep the camera rolling is when the secondary plane is making a wide turn. This way the camera plane can capture the hero plane from an angle that avoids the camera plane’s wing in the shot. To help deal with the control of lighting, we scheduled the planes to go up only during golden hour / sunset. Over the next few days we will be sharing a few short clips of the project. Full project is available on our website for viewing (website link in bio).

ChargeUp • A couple more stills from this project. It was a pleasure to collaborate with the team from ChargeUp. We had a small crew to work with but we successfully covered three separate locations on a single shoot day. The concept was a simple one — demonstrate the steps of renting portable chargers from the ChargeUp machine while keeping with the theme of their tagline, “ChargeUp. Keep Moving.”

ChargeUp • Here is a behind the scenes look and break down for our recent post. For this project we had multiple locations to cover in a single day. We decided to go light with equipment in favor of mobility. The lens choice was the Zeiss Super Speeds that allowed us to go wide open at T1.3. This way we are able to get proper exposure with smaller lighting units covering a big space. This scene was lit primarily with 2x M18s and 7x LED T5 tubes. 1x M18 was placed as a backlight and the other M18 as a key light. For the key light we gelled it magenta and the backlight was gelled Marine blue helping us achieve color contrast. The key light was placed at a 90 degree angle from camera to maintain a strong contrast. The LED tubes were used as lighting accents for the scene and it provided some general ambience to the space. All tubes were gelled marine blue. Because of our limited equipment and time we had decided to only light half of the outdoor futsal court and maintain our shooting axis in one direction. The following images are some behind the scenes looks of the set and setups.
