Ketahui kesan kos sara hidup yang bakal dihadapi rakyat Malaysia jika Konvensyen Kesatuan Antarabangsa bagi Perlindungan Varieti Baharu Tumbuhan (UPOV 1991) diiktirafkan oleh kerajaan Malaysia.

Kita masih ada masa untuk bertindak:

1. Tandatangani petisyen menyeru kerajaan supaya hentikan usaha mengiktiraf UPOV: https://c.org/kMbRTm8fX5 atau tekan link dalam bio akaun kami.

2. Tag ahli parlimen atau ADUN kawasan anda di ruangan komen. Tanya mereka “Mengapa perlindungan harga benih ini perlu digantikan oleh UPOV?”

3. Kongsikan video ini!

Not sure why Malaysian food security experts are alarmed over UPOV? Watch this to find out.

UPOV is an international convention meant to protect plant breeders’ rights, which in theory would encourage them to breed better plant varieties.

But many activists have fiercely criticised it for having created monopolies where a handful of major companies now control much of the world’s food systems.

Farmers in many countries now rely on these giant companies for seeds — and the special fertilisers or pesticides they need to grow.

Find out more at www.stop-upov.com. You can also find a petition by to stop the Malaysian government from joining UPOV.

✊ TANDATANGANI PETISYEN untuk selamatkan benih kita! Link di bio.

Macam mana kalau berkongsi benih jadi satu kesalahan?

Tapi ia masih belum dimuktamadkan.

This local fishing community is resisting a tourist waterfront project, after land was quietly alienated to a state GLC for an RM2.2 BILLION project.

We first heard of this case when filming .my, our documentary investigating how state land deals were forcing out generational food-producing communities.

These land deals often occur between state governments and private developers, but also very often with state GLCs. There is almost zero public transparency and accountability with most of these deals, creating an environment which experts and activists believes enables corruption.

But in Pangkor, members of the fishing community are pushing back, demanding proper stakeholder engagement, citing fears over environmental degradation (especially from massive land reclamation) and more failed white elephant projects.

A handful of politicians have recently offered to help, but time is running out — the local council is obligated to do just one final town hall with local residents, after which they can gazette the plan.

The fishing community and other volunteer activists are now organising as much as they can, believing this to be their last chance to ensure the development does not come at the cost of Pangkor’s cultural and environmental heritage.

Meet Karen Wong, a defender of Bukit Kiara. As part of (FoBK), she’s on the front lines defending one of the last remaining green spaces in Kuala Lumpur.

From holding developers and government officials accountable to organising town halls when green spaces are threatened, FoBK are in the fight to defend their beloved forest using the power of community. It’s an uphill battle (pun intended~), but they aren't doing it alone.

Across Malaysia, community-led groups are using everything from indigenous wisdom to eco-tourism to keep our green spaces safe. Follow them to support their work 👇🏻
