Crowds, weather, and tight spaces made this shoot harder than it should be, but the Mir-10A kept the images looking soft and natural. The skin tones, the gentle falloff, and the light handling from these vintage lenses helped everything feel more cinematic. It reminded me that we create the best we can under the circumstances.

Shooting at this car show wasn’t easy. The crowd control was messy, people kept walking into the frame, and the weather didn’t help. But the Mir-10A and Mir-1B still gave me the look I wanted. Even in tough conditions, these vintage Soviet lenses handle light and skin tones in a way that keeps me using them. In the end, it’s about creating the best we can with what we have.

A simple track day at Sepang turned into a reminder of why I enjoy this work. Shooting race queens with vintage Soviet lens gave me the softness, bloom, and character I like. It feels less technical and more about crafting a mood like a movie. That’s why I keep using these lenses.

Modern lenses would have made this scene look clean, but I was curious how the Soviet prototype Mir-46MA and the East German Flektogon would handle the floodlights. The softness, the flare, and the way the image falls off felt right for a night track day. Trying different lenses like these has been fun for me, and it often gives a look I can’t get anywhere else.

went to Sepang with no real plan besides trying these vintage lenses under the floodlights. The flares, the glow, the softness on skin… everything came together in a way I couldn’t predict. Moments like this make the whole process fun. This is why I keep using these vintage Soviet lenses.

Shelby Mustang, that is not the car featured here and it’s only one half of the race queen’s name.

Shooting race queens at Sepang with a vintage Soviet prototype lens Mir-46MA 35mm and a Flektogon 25mm reminded me why I enjoy vintage glass so much. The floodlights were strong, but the way these lenses handled flare and skin tones felt perfect. Soft, gentle, and very different from modern lenses. This is the look I keep coming back to.

What happens when you film race queens with lenses built before they were born? πŸ‘€
I wanted to see how vintage Soviet glass would handle the color, style, and energy of MotoGP Malaysia 2025’s race queens..
The Mir-46MA 35mm f1.4 and Zeiss Flektogon 25mm f4 gave me that soft, cinematic glow that modern lenses can’t replicate.
Vintage character meets modern elegance. Exactly how I like it.
