Next New Wave is an initiative founded in 2015 to focus on nurturing young and emerging filmmakers in Malaysia. The name Next New Wave was a play on the previously groundbreaking but short-lived Malaysian New Wave which made its appearance in 2005, when Malaysian independent films were travelling to film festivals all over the world thus paving a new path for alternative cinema in Malaysia. A new

generation of filmmakers are beginning to find their own way with new technology and platforms, exploring new ways of filmmaking. Next New Wave is determined to help cultivate in these emerging storytellers the spirit for experimentation and perspective.

【活动回顾 | Event Recap】

上周日，由Next New Wave、马来西亚华人影视协会 Chinese Film Association of Malaysia 及无本电影杂志 WuBen Film Magazine 联合举办的《情感机器梦游中》AI短片展映圆满结束！

我们精选了13部风格多元的AI短片作品，并特邀创作者吴子唯 Goh Zi Wei、沈成兴和阿良 Jacky Yeap展开对谈，讨论从创作灵感到技术美学。探讨AI如何解锁更多“不可能”的魔幻时刻与表达方式。

和AI合作就像与另一个创作者对话——不完美，但充满惊喜与可能。

Last Sunday, "Dreaming Emotion Machine: An AI Short Film Showcase," presented by Next New Wave, Chinese Film Association of Malaysia and WuBen Film Magazine wrapped up beautifully!

We have curated 13 unique AI short films and invited creators Goh Zi Wei, Sim Seng Hing and Jacky Yeap for a special discussion—exploring creative inspiration, technical aesthetics, and how AI unlocks those "impossible" magical moments in artistic expression.

Embracing AI is like having a dialogue with another creator—not perfect, but full of surprises and possibilities.

Our 4th "AI Short Film Creation Workshop" just ended last Sunday—and what an inspiring ride! 🔥

From ages 7 to 47, participants joined us from the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and China—filmmakers, artists, producers, digital creators and more!

We were amazed by their final AI short films, which ranged from epic historical war stories and fantasy cartoons to experimental black-and-white cinema and touching family tales. 🎬✨

Whether you're a total beginner or simply curious about AI, you're welcome to join and explore AI filmmaking together. No experience needed—just curiosity!
