The University of Malaya Press was founded in 1954 and is the oldest university press in Malaysia. Established on the premise that it is the University's responsibility, not only to teach but also to spread knowledge far and wide, the University of Malaya Press publishes high-quality scholarly books and is, today, a highly respected and preferred publisher for researchers within and without the co

untry. Its publications have won numerous awards through the years for their contribution to their respective fields and are available worldwide. Its backlist of physical and electronic books consists of scholarly and contemporary general titles as it champions the arts and discusses issues that affect society. Besides its publishing activities, the University of Malaya Press also provides quality printing services to the University and the general public from its in-house facilities. Its editorial and designing services are also available to the University and the general public. Enhancing an already significant footprint, the University of Malaya Press also operates Halaman @ Penerbit Universiti Malaya, which sells and promotes its titles as well as selected books from other publishers. The Press also designs and manufactures a line of merchandise that is sold through Halaman.

Our Story

The Department of Publications, University the Malaya (UM), houses a printing centre and the University of Malaya Press. It started operations in 1954 as the University of Malaya Press in Singapore and in 1960, the Press was registered as a private company. In 1988, it was voluntarily dissolved and was reinstated as a department. The department concentrates on publishing as a step forward towards acquisition, nurturing, developing and disseminating knowledge.
