Happy Merdeka and Malaysia Day everyone! Wave the flags, enjoy the fireworks, and post your patriotic Instagram captions. But maybe also ask: who’s missing from this party?

PASCA PFKB2025: PT 2

The best thing about Pesta Filem Kota Bharu is the spirit of comradery amongst its attendees, and for us at Fat Bidin, it's also the opportunity to catch up with friends within the industry that we barely get to see.

Thank you PFKB for maintaining a laidback atmosphere for the third year running. May the spirit of the festival never change with its growth and evolution.

PASCA PFKB2025: PT 1

Pesta Filem Kota Bharu has quickly become Fat Bidin's favourite film festival after attending the 2nd edition last year.

The young festival is filled with fresh films & vibrant energy, mirrored & amplified by the organisers themselves.

This year was no different, with sprinklings of young new filmmakers mixed with seasoned directors, all sharing & exchanging their insights and ideas with equal enthusiasm.

We were very lucky to also have had our film THE BENDERA MAN selected as part of Panorama Kelantan this year & to have shared the segment with such diverse stories of and from Kelantan.

This image deficit the government has isn’t something that can be fixed with a well-sounding speech from a good orator, or a new slogan or campaign.

At the moment, the people’s trust, or at least the image that they have of the current government, is more like scepticism or even weary resignation.

As a journalist who has been writing opinion pieces for more than 15 years now, I have had my fair share of threats. People have called me names and criticised me, they’ve threatened to physically beat me up, and there have been occasions where they would touch on my family and children too. But I never took these things seriously.

This isn’t just about politics anymore; it’s about a complete breakdown of what it means to be a decent human being.
