📍 Kelantan Customs Department and its K9 unit have successfully busted 28 drug-smuggling attempts in the state so far this year, seizing drugs worth over RM30 million.

•⁠ ⁠"With the help of the three dogs, Tara, Bittu and Snoopy, our job has become easier," said department director Wan Jamal. In 2024 alone, the K9 unit busted 13 cases with drug seizures valued over RM12 million.

•⁠ ⁠Among the three Labrador Retrievers' early successes was foiling an attempt to smuggle 100kg of compressed cannabis in a car boot in Kota Bharu a few years ago.

•⁠ ⁠Tara, Bittu and Snoopy are among twenty K9 dogs, mainly Labrador Retrievers and English Springer Spaniels, in operation under the Customs Department nationwide.

📍 Maru the cat, who once held the Guinness World Record for the most views for an animal on YouTube, has died at age 18.

•⁠ ⁠The feline's family announced that he died on 6 September. His health had declined rapidly following his lung adenocarcinoma cancer diagnosis.

•⁠ Maru, which means round in Japanese, gained popularity after his family posted videos of him squeezing into impossibly small spaces, particularly tiny boxes, on their channel Mugumogu.

•⁠ Maru held the Guinness World Record for the most viewed animal on YouTube from 2016, at 325 million views, until 2018. Today, his YouTube channel has recorded over 578 million views.

📍 KK Tanom Coffee, director charged with misusing the registered geographical indication "Tenom Coffee" on their coffee products.

•⁠ ⁠Coffee manufacturing firm KK Tanom Coffee and its director Lim Sen Tiam, 53, were charged at the Sessions Court with misusing the geographical indication "KK Tanom Coffee" on 1,368 units of Kopi-O 2-in-1 Kopi-O Kow 240g, without consent. The term is, deemed to indirectly refer to the registered geographical indication "Tenom Coffee".

•⁠ ⁠This marks the first such prosecution in Malaysia under the Geographical Indications Act 2022. The company faces a maximum fine of RM15,000 for each item for the first offence, while subsequent offences carry a maximum fine of RM30,000 per item.

•⁠ ⁠Director Lim, if convicted, may be fined up to RM10,000 per item, imprisoned for up to 3 years or both. For subsequent offences, the maximum penalty is a RM20,000 fine per item, 5 years imprisonment or both.
