The short film “BEE, My Friend“, based on the real story of the SJKC Kuala Kemaman ((Kuala Kemaman Chinese primary school), was officially released in the school edition to coincide with the 2023 Teachers' Day.
Directed by TK Cheng and produced by GHF Education Innovation (Malaysia) Scholar Award winner Chia Gaik Nooi and Studio T2BD Creative Director Ang Wui Chong.
The short film was shot in 2019, premiered, and competed in the "Southeast Asian New Wave" section of the Osaka Asian Film Festival in 2020.
The "Magic Campus" really exists, and that is the SJKC Kuala Kemaman in Kemaman, Terengganu.
This school once faced closure because it had too few students. However, since Principal Chia came to take charge of the school more than a decade ago, the school has been transformed into one of the famous prestigious schools in the nation.
Over the years, the school has received numerous commendations from the Board of Education and the Ministry of Education, and has even been recognized with international awards.
Based on her own experience at the helm of the school and the “Letters of Memoirs" sent to her by the alumni of the school, Principal Chia, who retired in 2018, unveils the stories behind the magic of the transformation of this Chinese school through the idea of Director Cheng.
In the past few years of the epidemic, we tried hard to promote the good values, and the educational concept of the SJKC Kuala Kemaman, regarding "Love" and the "Little Honey Bee Program" through participating in numerous film festivals.
As the epidemic slowed down, this is the time to release the film and continue spreading the “magic of good values”.
In addition to the prize money from the GHF Education Innovation (Malaysia) Scholarship Award given by Principal Chia, we also received generous grants from the Sunshine Universe, alumnus Dato' Soh Kok Hiang and the Anitox (m) Sdn Bhd for the production of “BEE, My Friend”.
We are also grateful to the main actress Kendra Sow, and all the actors and crew members who participated in the filming. We would love to thank the School Board & Parents Association, the alumni, the loving parents, the principal, the teachers, and the students. Thank you all for making this an extraordinary and meaningful film.
As Teacher's Day falls on this month, this film is a tribute to our hard-working educators and students. With the pollen of their minds, teachers carefully brew the nectar of education, which is rich in many good elements. Thanks to your teaching and dedication, every child gets the chance to be proud of their achievements.
Thank you, Teacher.
