Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), in collaboration with the State Attorney-Generalโs Chambers (SAGC) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development (MUDeNR), successfully conducted a 3-day consultation workshop to review and strengthen the proposed revisions to the National Parks and Nature Reserves Ordinance and the Wild Life Protection Ordinance, together with their relevant Rules and Regulations.
The workshop was organised as part of SFCโs ongoing efforts to strengthen the legal and regulatory framework for the conservation and protection of Sarawakโs natural resources, particularly in supporting the effective implementation and management of the Stateโs Totally Protected Area (TPA) Management Plan.
The workshop was attended by State Counsels from SAGC led by Tuan Hisyamudin bin Roslan, as well as Puan Tessy Nimos, Head of the Forestry and Wildlife Division, MUDeNR.
SFC was represented by its management team led by Tuan Abang Arabi bin Abang Aimran, Controller of Wild Life Sarawak, and Tuan Haji Madhan bin Kiflie, Deputy General Manager (Conservation). Also participating were Tuan Mohd. Kasyfullah bin Zaini, Head of the TPA Management Division, Tuan James Bali, Head of the Biodiversity and Research Division, together with relevant officers from the respective SFC divisions.
The recommendations and comments arising from the workshop will be taken into consideration in the further refinement of the proposed amendments to the relevant Ordinances and Rules before they proceed through the appropriate approval process.
As part of the workshop programme, SFC and SAGC also took the opportunity to participate in a friendly pickleball match. The informal sporting activity provided an opportunity for officers from both organisations to interact in a relaxed setting, strengthen professional relationships and foster greater camaraderie and cooperation beyond the formal consultation sessions. The activity reflects the importance of maintaining strong inter-agency relationships and collaboration in supporting the shared objectives of conservation, protection and enforcement.
SFC remains committed to strengthening collaboration with the State Government and relevant agencies in safeguarding Sarawakโs rich biodiversity and ensuring the long-term protection and effective management of its Totally Protected Areas and wild life.
