Sarawak-born practising lawyer Wejok Tomik has hit back at former Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, saying Sarawak’s pursuit of its constitutional and Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) rights should be addressed through law rather than political arguments.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB) supreme council member Wejok Tomik said he supported Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim’s position that any determination of Sarawak’s oil and gas rights must take into account the Federal Constitution, the MA63 framework and relevant federal and Sarawak laws.

The creative industry can play a bigger role in conservation by using animation, film and digital storytelling to bring the importance of protecting Sarawak’s forests and wildlife to wider audiences.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said creative content could make conservation messages more accessible, particularly to children and younger generations, while creating opportunities for local talents including animators, filmmakers, writers, illustrators, musicians and content creators.

The Bau District Council has pulled off a remarkable turnaround, surging 58 places to rank fifth among 92 district councils nationwide in the 2026 Star Rating System for Local Authorities (SPB-PBT).

Its 91.61 per cent score also earned the council a five-star rating, making it the top-ranked district council in Sarawak.

A 24-year-old man was sentenced to one year in prison by the Magistrates’ Court here today (Oct 5) after pleading guilty to attempting to steal cables and wire components from an earth-moving lorry in Jalan Oya Lama.

The sentence was imposed by Magistrate Romario Jonoi, who ordered the jail term to take effect from the date of conviction.

A total of 95,883 smallholders in Sarawak have been identified as eligible to receive RM400 monthly under BUDI Agri-Komoditi.

Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said 35,676 smallholders, or 37.2 per cent, had been approved for the assistance as of September 2026.

“Of the 95,883 eligible smallholders, 35,676 or 37.2 per cent have been approved for BUDI Agri-Komoditi,” she said when answering a question from Betong MP Datuk Dr Richard Rapu during the Dewan Rakyat sitting today (Oct 5).

A 29-year-old Indonesian man was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment and one stroke of the cane by the Sessions and Magistrates’ Courts here today (Oct 5) for illegally entering Malaysia and dealing with a gaming machine.

Asolin first appeared before Sessions Court Judge Shafiza Datuk Abdul Razak Tready and pleaded guilty to an offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, punishable under Section 6(3) of the same Act.
