It is stated that 12,000 Big Data Scientists are needed within the next 2 years to spur Malaysia’s data driven economy. As a result, a tremendous amount of data professionals are required to produce further economic growth in data analytic related activities.

Under the Malaysia Open Science Initiative, Akademi Sains Malaysia and Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI), by 2021, we will organize training of trainers (TOT) programme for librarians and researchers nationally to be data stewards, data scientists or data curators to manage Malaysia's research data

Currently, there are three groups still work in progress develop in policy making, capacity building, and infrastructure system. Di Eropah, perjuangan hak milik awam memang sangat mantap. Walaupun data penyelidikan (research data) itu dihasilkan oleh penyelidik di universiti awam. Ianya tetap terikat dengan hak-hak milik awam, terikat dengan perlembagaan, dan akta-akta kerajaan sama seperti Arkib, Buku dan Maklumat. Tidak lari dengan pelbagai isu sensitif seperti persenjataan dan keselamatan.. Dari segi kuasa legislatif, pengurusan data awam, rekod awam, maklumat awam, penyelidikan di institusi awam....tak kira la dalam bentuk digital dan fizikal, semua tu terikat dengan akauntabiliti parlimen.. sebab tu universiti kena bentang prestasi tiap-tiap tahun.. senang cerita terikat cinta tiga segi ini...
