JOIN US THIS SATURDAY

Temporary Press has been publishing small books around incidental ideas or everyday practices in art and design since 2018. In this two-part presentation, Gideon Kong - one half of Temporary Press, will share more on their position as designers who publish. Specifically, he aims to talk about the designs Temporary Press publish and the contents they design. The first part takes the form of a simple slide presentation and the second a fragmented reading and guide through the reading room.

Announcing READING ELSE Vol 5: Temporary Press(Singapore)

Temporary Press presents a thoughtfully curated selection of books, bringing together titles from their own press, publications they have shaped as designers - gideon-jamie, and a broader spectrum of art and design publication from Singapore.

Temporary Press publishes content around art and design in the form of artist books, critical texts, and everyday research with an interest in incidental ideas and alternative practices. The press often relies on economical and improvisational design and production methods, often with a black-only Risograph and simple tools.

This reading room marks the final edition of regional publisher curations shared with the KL public, offered as part of Reading Else.

Announcing READING ELSE Vol 4: Islanders (Hong Kong) .zine

Reading Else Vol 4: Islanders島民 gathers books that can help us answer one question: how can we inhabit islands in ways that respect the land, the sea, their residents (notably those who were here before us), and the cultures that continue to shape everyday life? The books are cultivated to feed our minds with decentralised imaginaries where resilience is built through collective action, responsibilities, and a commitment to building joyful futures. Together, the collection invites slow reflection and critical dialogue, encouraging readers to reimagine island life as a practice of care, reciprocity, and shared stewardship.

ISLANDERS島民 , founded by urban researchers Myriem Alnet and Kit Chan, believes that islands and their inhabitants offer vital lessons on living within the limits of territory, resources, and connections while respecting soil, seas, and neighbours. Grounded in multidisciplinary research, the organisation explores island contexts and shares its findings through publications, workshops, place making events, and collaborations with skilled islanders who share its vision.

JOIN US THIS SUNDAY!

Januar Rianto will share insights into their multifaceted—and sometimes hard to define—modus operandi and highlight some of the imprint’s latest releases on graphic design, food culture, art, and creative writing. Initially conceived as an online compendium of reading references, Further Reading expanded into curatorial practice and exhibition-making before finding its footing as a publishing practice. Guided by independence and the ethos of alternativeness, along with a strong Southeast Asian identity, these facets informed their approach, methodologies, and decision-making processes.

Announcing READING ELSE Vol 2: Further Reading (Bandung/Jakarta) .reading.press

The project builds on Further Reading’s Bookshelf ( ), an online series launched in 2017 where the team and fellow contributors were asked to share books on Indonesian design, contemporary art, food culture, creative writing, theory and criticism, politics, and archive that had shaped their ethos.

Reading Else Vol 2: Further Reading extends this spirit into a collective reading room—less a definitive list than a living assemblage, an evolving catalogue of voices, projects, and movements that continue to shape and challenge artistic and discursive practices in Indonesia.
