The idea behind Citizen Journalists Malaysia was born with a simple dream to equip ordinary citizens regardless of background – teachers, lawyers, students, retirees – into fair, ethical and daring citizen journalists reporting on issues that concern them and their community.
Participants who attended the workshops are trained on journalistic skills to improve their writing and hone new skills such as video story-telling.
Some who have not handled a video camera before are now able to produce, edit and make documentaries, while some have gotten more confident and inquisitive in approaching people for interviews and writing articles to be published.
Throughout these years Citizen Journalists or CJs, as they are internally known have highlighted community struggles and stories which would not normally make it to mainstream media.
Some of the CJ’s have gone to reach greater heights such as become award winning Documentary Filmmakers and Award winning Journalist at reputable mainstream medias.
