📅 Audition Date: Sunday, 10 August 2025
🕒 Time:
Session 1: 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Session 2: 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM
📍 Location: KLCO Studio, 4B Jalan SS20/10, Damansara Kim, Petaling Jaya

🎵 Audition Requirements:
- Prepare two contrasting arias.
- If auditioning for The Merry Widow, one aria must be in English from the classical opera repertoire (no musical theatre or art songs).
- The Merry Widow candidates will also be asked to script reading from the English libretto (script provided during the audition).
-Live pianist and own pianist required– no backing tracks or video submissions accepted.

🌍 Eligibility and Registration:
Open to Malaysians and Malaysia-based visa holders.
Applicants from outside the Klang Valley or Malaysia are welcome, but if selected candidates must arrange and pay the cost of their own travel and accommodation, if selected.

What a night at Salute to Cinema! So proud of the KL City Opera Chorus — they truly rose to the occasion and delivered a powerful, moving performance.

From the intensity of Duel of the Fates (Star Wars) to the playful charm of The Nightmare Before Christmas medley, and the delightful Mary Poppins set — every moment was a joy.

The encore, “Se” from Cinema Paradiso, was especially heartwarming — a beautiful close to a memorable evening.

A big thank you to TUTAN Entertainment, the TUTAN Festival Orchestra, and conductor Kevin Field for this incredible collaboration.

🎬✨ Last night, the Stage 1 Theatre at PJPAC was transformed into a cinematic symphony as the Tutan Festival Orchestra, under the masterful baton of Kevin Field, and the evocative voices of the KL City Opera brought iconic film scores to life. From the haunting melodies of Schindler’s List to the exhilarating rhythms of Star Wars, it was an evening where music and movies merged into pure magic.

🎻 Highlights included Dr. Hyungi Kim's poignant violin solo in Schindler’s List, Ivan Torres' soulful cello in Eternal Vow, and the KL City Opera Chorus's powerful renditions in Duel of the Fates from Star Wars and The Nightmare Before Christmas. The audience was transported through a musical journey spanning The Godfather, Interstellar, E.T., Mary Poppins, and more.

🎭✨ Don Giovanni Diction Session with Andrea Paduano

We had a fantastic diction and interpretation session with Andrea Paduano as part of our preparation for KLCO’s upcoming production of Don Giovanni. With his deep understanding of both language and music, Andrea guided our singers through the nuances of Italian diction—ensuring every phrase and every inflection brings Mozart’s brilliant score to life.

But what makes Don Giovanni such a masterpiece among Mozart’s operas?

Often described as “the opera of operas,” Don Giovanni is a thrilling blend of comedy, drama, and the supernatural. Its richly layered characters, masterful orchestration, and psychological depth set it apart. From the seductive swagger of Don Giovanni to the heartbreak of Donna Elvira and the vengeance of the Commendatore, every role is musically and dramatically compelling. Mozart’s score shifts effortlessly between wit and darkness, offering some of the most iconic arias and ensembles in opera history.

Congratulations to Good Sound Trombone for an amazing afternoon recital at Slide to Summer! 🎉🎺
Held at the KLCO Recital Hall, this vibrant showcase featured a wide-ranging programme.

A wonderful mix of solo, quartet, and full ensemble performances brought the trombone’s power, lyricism, and humour to life. Bravo to the talented performers for such an entertaining and refreshing musical experience!
