10 June 2025: Happy 100th Birthday Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad

A century of life, and what a life it's been! Tun Mahathir isn't just Malaysia’s longest-serving Prime Minister, he’s a symbol of resilience, intellect, and vision on the global stage. Loved by many for his sharp wit and fearless ideas, he’s been a guiding figure not only for Malaysians but also for leaders across the Muslim world and beyond, who often look to him for wisdom on navigating complex global challenges with dignity and clarity.

I had the honour of witnessing that leadership up close during the preparations for the Kuala Lumpur Summit on 14 November 2019, when Tun was still serving as Prime Minister. The energy in the room, the weight of his presence, and the clarity with which he spoke, and a powerful handshake even at the age of 95, all unforgettable.

Sharing this memorable click from that day as a small tribute to a giant of our times.

Here’s to your health and peace, Tun. Thank you for the example you continue to set, of lifelong learning, service, and speaking your truth.

The Era of Generative AI: Creativity or Clutter?

According to an article by IBC, Adobe recently reported that over 13 billion images have been created using Firefly as of October 16, 2024. When we consider other leading tools like Midjourney, DALL-E, and especially the open-source powerhouse Stable Diffusion, the sheer volume of AI-generated images is staggering. To put it in perspective, I've personally generated over 500,000 images using Stable Diffusion alone since September 2022.

This explosion of AI-generated content raises an important question: Are we pushing the boundaries of creativity, or are we merely contributing to the ever-growing clutter in the digital library?

While these tools unlock unprecedented possibilities for artists, designers, and businesses to ideate and iterate at lightning speed, there's also a risk of saturating the internet with content that lacks depth or purpose or sometimes even misleading from the facts (especially when generating historical figures). The convenience of "quick creativity" can sometimes overshadow thoughtful curation.

So, how can we ensure that generative AI remains a tool for meaningful expression rather than just noise? Waiting for your valuable comments?

Achieving my Fourth Consecutive Triple Crown award as Toastmaster and seeing YMCA KL Toastmasters club (my home club) earn its Fourth Presidential Distinguished Club award is a moment of great pride—especially in the 100th year of Toastmasters International.

This journey wouldn't have been possible without the guidance of inspiring leaders: DTM Charles CL Tan , DTM Huei Ying Lim , DTM Ramdas Nayar, DTM Cosy Amar and DTM Patricia Yap. Your leadership has been a beacon for us all.

A special thanks to the YMCA KL Club Leaders who worked tirelessly alongside me. As a Former President of YMCA KL TMC and as an Immediate Past Area Director, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together.

Toastmasters has not only shaped my public speaking and leadership skills but also empowered me to lead with confidence, communicate effectively, and inspire others.

The Power of Traditional Broadcasting Meets the Challenge of New Media

Traditional media has always played a vital role in informing, educating, and inspiring audiences. But with the rise of new media and ever-changing algorithms, media professionals need to upskill themselves to stay relevant.

I'm excited to share that AIBD recently collaborated with Voice of Vietnam (VOV), State Broadcaster of Vietnam, to conduct a successful 2-day workshop on social media strategy, workflow audits, and future-proofing content creation in a dynamic digital landscape.

A big thank you to Mr Ngo Minh Hien (VOV Vice President), Ms Hoa Thuy Nguyen, Director, International Relations, Ms Phoebe Phúc Lâm Ngô (IR Officer & Translator), and Mr Seelan Paul (Facilitator & Consultant) for making this a success!

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with VOV to understand the Vietnamese media ecosystem and provide even more intensive training opportunities.
