EPIC Homes, the flagship program of EPIC Collective, founded by John-son Oei. EPIC (Extraordinary People Impacting Communities) is an ecosystem that activates everyone to solve systemic issues together ๐ค
โ
Since starting 15 years ago, EPIC Homes has mobilized over 9,000 volunteers - including doctors, engineers, and people fresh out of juvenile centers - to build 350+ sustainable homes for Orang Asli families. A system inspired by IKEA & Lego๐งฑ, theyโre addressing the critical need where over 10,000 families in Malaysia still need safe housing. John-son explains that the goal is not just the house, but building trust and relationships to address the root causes of vulnerability.
โ
An impact so effective, EPIC is now collaborating with the Malaysian Government and reaching internationally such as Cambodia! Some highlights from this episode:
โ
๐ฑ Carbon-Negative Homes: EPIC just built its first house from a local, sustainable material that might make their builds carbon negative. What is this material and how does it empower the local supply chain? (itโs not wood!)
โ
๐ Beyond CSR: How did a team building exercise change one construction companyโs welfare policies for its own staff - proving CSR isn't just about giving back?
๐ค Government Partnerships & Sponsorship Matching: How can companies double their impact through a special partnership with the Malaysian Government, while securing tax exemptions & HRDC claimable benefits?
โ
๐ The Personal Drive: John-son also shares the personal reason why the security of a safe home is so important to him.
