FIVE TIPS if you come across a suspected scam:
1) THINK before you act - Take a moment before reacting or sharing online content
2) Be SKEPTICAL - If it's too good to be true, check with the authorities such as the Securities Commission or PDRM's Semak Mule.
3) GOOGLE it - Sometimes finding out if a scam is real or not is a simple Google search away.
4) REPORT it - Tell the authorities or social media platforms if something is a scam or inappropriate. Even if you were already harmed, your actions can
5) SHARE your experience - Sometimes the best way to stop a scam is to let those you care about know that they exist. Don't be shy

For many years, the bay of Teluk Sulaman in Sabah, Malaysia has been home to large numbers of fish, feeding the fishing villages just north of Kota Kinabalu.

Some 40km from the state capital, the bay has accommodated large patches of seagrass meadows, and is home to young prawns, crabs, fish, and various marine species.

In recent years however, fishermen from Kampung Penimbawan on the north side of the bay have seen a decline in fish being caught as well as fewer quantities of seagrass.

Seagrass meadows are a vital source of marine life and seafood, while serving as a natural zone of protection against coastal erosion, as well as a safe food source for dugongs and sea turtles.

That is why organisations like Yayasan PETRONAS together with the Sabah state government and researchers from Universiti Malaysia Sabah are working together to protect Teluk Sulaman's vital ecosystem.

And they're doing this by teaching locals from Kampung Penimbawan, in the hopes that by planting more of this underwater plants, they will be able to get marine species to breed more and restore the numbers of fish that villagers used to see in decades past.

At the same time, the efforts also include a state-wide seagrass mapping, where authorities work with scientists to find out the extent of the state's seagrass spread.

This is so they can make the right decisions to study and protect the seagrass in the state.

Taking action to plant seagrass meadows while studying to protect them supports the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water.

Imagine living in a place where floods happen. But instead of waiting for them, you build high embankments, install sirens, clear drains, and teach people what to do in case something bad happens.

That's what disaster risk reduction (DRR) is.

It means spotting dangers early and making the places where we live stronger, so that people can be prepared for the worst disasters, and recover quickly in an emergency.

In October, hundreds of people attended a special Disaster Risk Reduction exhibition and seminar hosted by the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) and the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia.

The event, which saw several Malaysian and Japanese businesses showing off anti-disaster technology was the first of its kind in the country. More events like these are being planned in the future.

Disaster risk reduction (DRR) is an important part of social and economic development, is linked to SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Is a waste of time, just misunderstood, or in need of a lot of work?

The United Nations' 30th Conference of Parties will be held in Belem, Brazil from Nov 10 to Nov 21, 2025, with world leaders trying to figure out how to deal with climate change as the world grows even hotter.

What do you think about COP this year? Will we see concrete action coming out of the world's biggest climate conference, or will it be more of the same?

Malaysia's Pulau Besar island is in Mersing, Johor, and people there have found a way to keep its beaches clean.

Instead of burning or dumping waste like they used to, they turn their food waste into compost and among other things, sort their garbage for recycling.

This is thanks to , a science-based, community-driven and nature conservation NGO initiative based in Mersing.

For more information, check out their website at tengahislandconservation dot org.

Actions on Pulau Besar are in support of the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 11: "Sustainable Cities and Communities" and Sustainable Development Goal 14: "Life Below Water".

Malaysia's seagrass meadows, such as Middle Bank, are one of the country's little known secrets.

Located in the middle of the Penang Strait, between mainland Peninsular Malaysia and Penang Island, Middle Bank is home to young prawns, crabs, fish, and countless marine species.

The place is not only a vital source of marine life and seafood, but also acts as a natural zone of protection against coastal erosion while serving as a food source for dugongs and sea turtles.

The area is also at risk from pollution and human activity, which is why organisations like Yayasan PETRONAS are working with Malaysian scientists to map, study, and protect this vital ecosystem.

Taking action to study seagrass meadows so that they can be protected supports the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water.

Every elephant lost on the road is a step closer to extinction. With fewer than 1,700 wild Asian elephants left in Peninsular Malaysia, we cannot afford more losses.

Roads like the Gerik-Jeli highway (part of the East-West Highway) cut through important forests, threatening wildlife with accidents, habitat loss, and poaching. Since 2020, nearly 2,400 wild animals—including elephants and tigers—have died on Malaysian roads.

Wildlife crossings, eco-viaducts, and fencing help keep animals from road accidents. But infrastructure alone isn't enough. We need awareness, enforcement, and public support to keep Malaysia's wildlife safe.

This World Environment Day, let's take action to protect Malaysia's forests and the wildlife that depend on them.

Slow down. Stay alert. Support conservation.

Because protecting life on land starts with how we live on it.

Most back alleys in Malaysia's cities are little more than access lanes, and are often neglected and forgotten.

One neighbourhood however, decided to go the extra mile and use their gardening skills to turn their housing area's back alley into an urban paradise.

Here's an eight-step YouTube guide on how you can do the same for your neighbourhood (in Malaysia or anywhere else in the world)!
