How are these two men protecting a forest?

By planting rare, endangered trees!

David Lok and Moo F**k Yow from "Reforesting Sungai Buaya" are restoring the degraded Rantau Panjang forest near Rawang, Malaysia.

One of the trees they're planting is merawan kanching, a species with only 400 left in Malaysia.

They planted about 100 more on this 50-acre land, along with hundreds of other endangered trees, and thousands of other saplings.

Restoring your own forest is an action in line with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15: Life on Land.

The two men say that by planting endangered trees, people would be reluctant to cut the forest down.

What do you think of the plan to save this forest?

This farm is growing fish and veggies from the food you throw away!

Malaysia's QuinTerra takes food waste from restaurants and supermarkets — and turn it back into food.

Here’s how it works:
Food waste → black soldier fly larvae → fish feed → fresh vegetables

No waste. No landfill. Food back into food again.

Since 2024:
2.5 tonnes of fish, vegetables grown
10.1 tonnes of food waste diverted
20 tonnes of methane avoided
500 tonnes of carbon emissions reduced

Malaysia generates 17 million kg of food waste every day.

It doesn't have to be like this.

If you’re a restaurant, retailer or you want to know more, check out QuinTerra today.

Turning food waste into food is an action in line with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Fuel is getting expensive and I'm really sick of traffic jams.

That's why I ran to KL.

Will you run to KL with me? Or will you at least call for our government to build a better city?

Cities should be built for people. Not vehicles.

They should be safe and sustainable for everyone. This would be in line with the UN's SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Some of Malaysia's first roads were built first by elephants.

Humans couldn't cross forests easily. But elephants could, and made (and maintained) trails which humans shared for thousands of years.

When humans modernized, they turned some of these trails into the roads we use today.

There are less than 1,700 elephants in Peninsular Malaysia, and their numbers are declining, so the relationship between forests and elephants is slowly disappearing.

So what happens to our forests if elephants disappear?

The preservation of elephants is a step in line with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land.

Many thanks to Lim Teck Wyn for his expert understanding and explanation of Malaysia's elephants, and how they relate to roads and forests.

A huge thank you to Year of the Durian for their amazing clips of elephants.

The Asian monitor lizard is a familiar sight across Malaysia (and Southeast Asia), often moving through city drains, rivers, and parks.

It's a reminder that wildlife continues to thrive in urban environments.

Their presence reflects SDG 15 (Life on Land), urging us to recognise, respect, and coexist with the wildlife that remains closer to us than we often realise.

Something I saw while jogging today. Also the cat is okay, as far as I know.
