And it’s a wrap folks. Our final newsletter. Thank you for all the love and support, and to all who’ve reached out or written such wonderful things about Between The Lines.
But now we ask that you show the same to others who, like us, are trying to make a difference. We’ve named a few but there are more (sadly we can’t name 'em all due to space constraints). Good journalism as well as responsible and diverse content need support.
Our final QOTD is dedicated to our beloved and deeply missed BTL co-founder Marc Lourdes, for daring to dream and giving flight to BTL.
Sadly, the sun has gone to bed on Between The Lines (BTL) newsletter and it’s time for us to similarly bid our farewell. But not before 1 final recap of the latest state election news and other politicos' shenanigans, the drama over a pair of shorts in Kelantan and more.

All good things must come to an end. And so it is for Between The Lines newsletter after over four amazing years. June 30 will be our last newsletter edition, but we look forward to exploring possible new projects in the future.

A coupla big, fat sharks are in our graftbusters' crosshairs over the alleged, purported pilfering of billions of RM. And not only is this all apparently linked to the Pandora Papers, it seems 1 of 'em suspected culprits is a former senior minister.
Elsewhere in today's weekend news roundup, the finger-pointing continues over Malaysia's poor showing at the Cambodia SEA Games; a former Umno strongman is apparently set to lead some 1k people to the green Islamist promise land of PAS; and a freak storm wreaks havoc in the Klang Valley.

Welcome back from yet another long weekend, friends. We hope it was an awesome and restful one!
Today, we look at how the mercury's risen to the point it's got at least 1 gomen bigwig wondering if kids should be kept from school.
Elsewhere in today's weekend news roundup, there're upset folks as a massive land reclamation project gets the all-clear; a jailbird ex-PM's pardon bid is causing inter-gomen bickering; and, several ex-Umno stalwarts are getting ready to turn out in opposition colours.
It's on with the show, folks!

Tour de Malaysia
It's Day 7 of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, yet our supreme leader/PM10's decision to hold multi-state open houses is still ruffling some feathers.
Elsewhere in today's weekly news roundup, talk of yet another coup is put to bed (we hope!); Sarawak politicos spar over possibly, maybe opening a casino; and, the long arm of the 1MDB scandal nets a Grammy-winning star with ties to a certain Malaysian pirate.

In light of the Aidilfitri celebrations and the PM's holiday announcement, there'll be no weekend roundup on Mon, April 24. We'll see you next on Fri, April 28. Have a Selamat and Wonderful Hari Raya Aidilfitri, dear friends from team BTL. Maaf zahir & batin. Please don't forget to send some rendang and ketupat our way.

A very long weekend
We may not be getting a "Hurried" nor a "Harried" Raya this year (we hope!), but there's still been a wee bit of confusion and complaints about the extra public holidays.
Elsewhere in today's weekly news roundup, graft busters quiz a non-suspect/non-witness minister once more and nab a coupla immi officers; a political party's accounts get frozen, again; and sorry DBKL, but it's hands off Taman Rimba Kiara!

Journalism Is A Public Service
The Between the Lines newsletter is brought to you by a group of Malaysian journalists that, together, has over 60 years of media experience in four countries across TV, print and digital media. As media people, we naturally believe it’s important to be as informed as possible about the news. However, we also appreciate there are just not enough hours in a day to read and digest everything being put out, on- and off-line.
That's why our company, Trident Media, kicked off Between The Lines. This is a weekday e-newsletter that condenses the good, bad and ugly in Malaysian news and serve it to you in easy-to-consume chunks sometime before your morning coffee.
But why subscribe, you may ask? After all, aren’t there many similar other propositions in Malaysia today?
Well, here are five reasons why this note is different:
Every newsletter out there exists to drive your clicks and traffic to one company’s website. Between the Lines is publisher-agnostic; we don’t exist to send traffic to any one website, but will curate the best content from across Malaysian and global media. In short, we will trawl through the news so you don’t have to.
Most newsletters are automated and basically just a list of headlines.Ours is created by actual human beings. We care about good writing and creating compelling content. We hope to inject wit, snark, style (perhaps even the occasional swear word!) into our work; you will see the difference quite easily.
What’s missing in most newsletters is context . Why is a certain story important? What makes it the headline of the day? What does a certain issue actually mean to us regular folk? In our emails, we will read between the lines (ahem) of stories and help answer those questions.
We will NEVER sell your data to a third-party: For us, you - the reader - are our audience and customer. You and your information are not a product that we will sell to advertisers.
Lastly, we will give you only the essentials, get you up to speed for your day and not waste your time on anything unnecessary.
We're REALLY excited about this project and hope it will be a valuable public service to Malaysians everywhere. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts if you’ve signed up for Between the Lines and allowed us into your inbox. We hope you'll enjoy reading our content as much as we enjoy creating it. (Btw, pro-tip: Add us to your address book to make sure our newsletter goes direct to your main inbox.)
We’re not some big, rich and well-resourced media company. We're just a small group of journos trying to solve what we see as a problem, and perform a public service. We may do some things well, but we will certainly things wrong every now and then. Please hit “reply” to our emails if you to pat our backs, smack our heads or just to say hi and make a suggestion.
Oh, and most importantly - please, pretty please forward our newsletters on to your family and friends if you like it and think it has value. There's nothing we writers love more than being read. :)
