Creck Sporting Club have appointed experienced coach Ernest Mtawali as their new Head Coach on a two-year deal, with his appointment taking effect immediately.

The 59-year-old replaces Eliya Kananji, who recently left the club after a string of disappointing results in the FDH Bank Premiership.

A former Flames midfielder and ex-national team coach, Mtawali brings a wealth of experience to the Civilians. During his coaching career, he has managed Mzuni FC, Bullets and TP Mazembe.

Club officials are confident the veteran tactician will help revive the team's campaign and improve performances in the remaining matches of the season.

Supporters will now be eager to see the impact of Mtawali's leadership as Creck Sporting seek a fresh start.

According to Lumbadzi Police spokesperson Felix Kwinyani, Nkhuwa died on Sunday evening after checking into the lodge with an unidentified woman.

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has received a major boost in its preparations for international competitions following the handover of an accommodation facility from One NICO Group through Eris Properties.

The facility, named the “Queens House,” is located in Namiwawa Township in Blantyre. It sits on a 5.6-hectare piece of land and will serve as a permanent camping base for the Malawi national netball team, the Queens.

The symbolic handover took place on Monday, 8 June 2026, marking an important milestone in the partnership between NAM and its corporate partners.

NAM President Vitumbiko Gubuduza said the development will significantly reduce costs. She noted that the association is expected to save over K75 million annually, which was previously spent on accommodation during national team camps.

“We used to spend around K25 million per camp, but this arrangement gives the Queens a permanent home and will improve preparation and consistency,” said Gubuduza.

Eris Properties Chief Executive Officer Washington Chimuzu said the company is pleased to see the project come to life, adding that there is room for possible lease extension beyond the current three-year agreement.

Malawi National Council of Sports Chief Executive Officer Ivy Chinangwa praised the initiative, describing it as a strong partnership model that will strengthen the development and competitiveness of netball in Malawi.

“We are encouraged by this investment in sports infrastructure and remain open to supporting further developments, including a netball court at the same site,” said Chinangwa.

The Eng. Hon. Vitumbiko Mumba District Netball League continues to raise the level of competition as teams enter Week Four of the season in Mzuzu District.

Mzuzu District Netball Committee General Secretary, Loveness Gama, says the league has become more competitive, with every fixture now presenting tougher challenges for participating teams.

Gama explained that some Week Four fixtures have been adjusted as Moyale Queens and Moyale Ball Busters will not be in action. Some of their players are currently assisting with security duties during the ongoing Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations.

She also confirmed that Shimmers’ matches have been rescheduled, as several of their players are sitting for the same examinations. She said this is in line with the Netball Association of Malawi’s (NAM) commitment to prioritising girls’ education alongside sport development.

According to Gama, the league has significantly improved the standard of netball in the district, with teams consistently facing stronger opposition each week, helping to sharpen skills and performance.

She further noted that the competition is providing an important platform for talent identification and player development across the district.

The district finals are expected to take place from 25 to 26 July 2026.
