President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah Appoints Hon. Frans Kapofi to Oversee the Portfolio of Industries, Mines and Energy on an Interim Basis

In exercising her constitutional mandate under Article 32(3)(i)(dd) of the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia, Her Excellency Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed Hon. Frans Kapofi, Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, to oversee the portfolio of Industries, Mines and Energy on an interim basis.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah had earlier assumed responsibility for the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy to ensure continuity in leadership and the uninterrupted delivery of services following recent changes in its leadership. Acting within the bounds of the Namibian Constitution, the President is empowered to assign or reassign ministerial functions where necessary to maintain the effective operation of Government.

The appointment of Hon. Kapofi ensures continued leadership and coordination within a Ministry that remains central to Namibia’s industrialisation, mining, and energy transformation agenda, while allowing for the orderly identification and appointment of a suitable candidate in due course.

The President reaffirmed that Government work must proceed with discipline, urgency, and accountability, in keeping with the guiding principles of the 8th Administration and the priorities outlined under the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6).

The President extends her best wishes to Hon. Kapofi as he undertakes this critical role and expresses full confidence in his ability to steer the Ministry with diligence and integrity.

The Presidency emphasises that this measure reflects the President’s commitment to stability, continuity, and constitutional governance, ensuring that all sectors of government remain focused on delivering for the Namibian people.

INITIATIVES | Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, Inge Zaamwani said that in its efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and stimulate investments across the value chain, government continues to implement strategic initiatives such as the Green Scheme Program, Value Chain Development Schemes, the Dry-land Crop Production Program and other complementary interventions.

She added that these programs are also aimed at creating employment opportunities, increase household incomes and ultimately reduce poverty levels, particularly in rural communities where their livelihoods depend on agriculture.

"Let us join hands in producing sufficient, safe and nutrious food in order to feed our nation and to contribute meaningfully towards the realisation of Namibia's Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. Vision 2030 calls upon us to build a nation that is food secure, prosperous and resilient, where agriculture serves as a driver of inclusive growth and sustainable livelihoods," Zaamwani said.

Zaamwani said this in a statement read on her behalf by the ministry's deputy executive director, Alfred Sikopo during the commemoration of the World Food Day at Ncamagoro village in the Kavango West region on Saturday.
