CELEBRATING ACHIEVEMENTS | The Netball in Kavango West is gaining momentum as the region hosted its first-ever netball awards ceremony, celebrating excellence, teamwork, and growth among local teams.

Speaking at the event, Veronica Kandunda, Vice Chairperson of the Kavango West Regional Netball described the season as one defined by growth, unity, and confidence. She praised players for their maturity and commitment, encouraging them to stay focused and aim even higher in the coming seasons.

In a historic gesture, Hotel Rundu from Kavango East crossed regional borders to donate N$20,000, helping strengthen and streamline the teams’ administrative operations. Cezarina Samati, Kavango West Netball Team Chairperson, read the speech on behalf of the hotel, highlighting that the support is part of their corporate social responsibility and aims to improve wellbeing and quality of life in the region.

Award Winners:
Wellness Warriors – Champions: N$3,000, gold medals & trophy.
Tiger Warriors – Second place: N$2,500 & silver medals.
Momaudunga – Third place: N$1,500.
Health Directorate – Fourth place: N$1,000.

All teams also received certificates to recognise their hard work and dedication.

HIV STATS | Kavango West's health and social services director Fransiska Hamutenya reported that 7,469 inhabitants of the region are on antiretroviaral therapy (ART). This, she said is 96.2% of those who tested positive for HIV. She said that the region is aiming to reach 100%.

She further reported that the viral load suppression in the region currently stands at 97%, while 394 HIV-negative people are receiving Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), a HIV prevention medication.

Hamutenya was speaking at the region's belated commemoration of World AIDS Day, currently underway at Mpora village in Ncamagoro constituency.

COMMEMORATION | Kavango West's belated commemoration of the International Human Rights Day and Day of the Namibian Women is currently underway at Kakuro in Nkurenkuru constituency. The commemoration commenced with a street march to the venue to create awareness of the day.

COACHING COURSE | More than 20 football coaches are undergoing a two-weeks NFA C - License coaching course at Nkurenkuru in Kavango West region. The course started on Monday and will end on 18 December. During the official opening held on Tuesday, the vice chairperson of the region's football association Egidius Nambara encouraged the attendees not to end at NFA C-License level but progress further. He said that a pool of more trained coaches is needed at both regional and national levels.

YOUTH FUND | The Kavango West Office of the Governor held an information sharing session on Tuesday at the Nkurenkuru Community Hall to create awareness about the National Youth Development Fund and boost youth to apply.

Officials from the Ministry of Finance explained how young people can apply for the fund and answered questions from those who attended.

The fund supports young people who want to start or grow small projects. It offers grants and training. It also helps young people build skills, create jobs and take part in local development.

Youth from all of the region attended the event.
