This is truly heartbreaking, especially coming from a mother who is also a pensioner. No one deserves to be deprived of shelter and food that is like killing someone while they are still alive.

Thumbs up to the people who found her and shared the situation on social media, and also to the quick response from the Namibian Police Force. Hopefully she receives the care, protection, and dignity she deserves. 💔

Stabbing Incident Leaves Five Injured at Rundu Police Cells

Five inmates were injured following violent clashes inside the holding cells at Rundu Police Station in the Kavango East Region last week.

According to Regional Commander Andreas Haingura, the incident occurred on Thursday, 22 January 2026, at around 09h30.

An inmate identified as Karora Ndjamba, who reportedly has 16 pending criminal cases, allegedly attacked two fellow inmates inside the police cells.

It is alleged that Ndjamba stabbed the two inmates using a sharp broken piece of metal from the burglar door of the cell, resulting in injuries.

During the altercation, one of the inmates, reportedly overpowered Ndjamba, seized the same metal object and stabbed him behind his left shoulder.

All three inmates were subsequently transported to hospital for medical treatment.

After receiving medical attention, Ndjamba was the first to be returned to Rundu Police Station. Haingura said he insisted on being taken back to the holding cells.

When police officers opened the cell door to allow him entry, Ndjamba allegedly became involved in another violent confrontation.

During the second incident, Ndjamba reportedly attacked three other inmates using an Okapi knife, with assistance allegedly provided by another inmate. All three inmates sustained stab wounds during the altercation.

Haingura said one of the inmates sustained a serious injury, suffering a deep cut wound to his left arm. The injured inmates were again assisted and taken for further medical attention.

Ndjamba appeared in court on Monday on charges related to the stabbings and was remanded in custody. Due to the seriousness of the case, he was later transferred to Ndiyona Police Station.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attacks are ongoing.

Two Rundu Inmates Escape from Magistrate’s Court, Police Launch Manhunt

Two trial-awaiting inmates Lukas Kambinda (18) and Domingo Kambinda (20), both from Kehemu location this afternoon escaped from the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on prompting a manhunt across the Kavango East Region.

According to Kavango East Police Crime Investigations Coordinator, Bonifatius Kanyetu, the incident occurred at around 15h00 when the two fled while being escorted back to the holding cells after their court appearance.

Kanyetu added that one of the suspects had appeared for his first court appearance on Kehemu CR 77/03/2025, a case of assault by threatening.

"As officers were handing keys to open the holding cell inside Court B, the inmate allegedly seized the chance to jump over the waiting-area wall. Both suspects then leapt over the court’s perimeter fence and fled on foot. Officers pursued them but were unsuccessful," he added.

Kanyetu confirmed the escape and noted that it is the second such incident in two days. “A similar incident happened on Monday, where another inmate managed to escape but was later rearrested,” he said.

Police investigations continue, and members of the public are urged to report any sightings of the two escapees to the nearest police station.
