THE HEADMAN RAISED FOUR QUESTIONS:

1. TO THE KAVANGO ROYAL HOUSES: Where are you? Why is Queen Sofia Mundjembwe the only royal voice here?
2. TO NAMWATER: How many rivers have you approached before Kavango?
3. TO THE GOVERNMENT: Who really benefits from projects that start with Kavango people in the proposal?
4. TO GEORGE: Must even the river be sent to Windhoek because our children live there? Are we the only ones with families there?

At the heart of his message are issues of reluctance, marginalisation, tribalism, corruption, and ignorance.

“HOW MUCH WATER IS IN THE KAVANGO RIVER?”
Hon. Paulus Mbangu posed the question to the professor, asking: “How can you manage what you cannot measure?”

He noted that no proper water audit has been carried out to determine the river’s actual capacity. Mbangu further argued that Windhoek should not be developed at the expense of other regions, adding:

“World cities are built near water, not in between rocks like Windhoek.”

KAVANGO RESIDENTS REJECT NAMWATER'S LINK PROJECT
NAMWATER plans to pump water from the Kavango River to central parts of Namibia. During the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) consultation meeting held at the Kavango Regional Council Auditorium, many residents rejected the project, raising questions that NAMWATER delegates reportedly could not adequately answer.

Speaking at the end of the engagement, Her Majesty Queen Sofia Mundjembwe echoed the concerns and sentiments expressed by the majority in attendance.
