Elected... Otjakapuuo peers group from Epukiro branch elected new leadership. Festus Vizaa Kavari is the chairperson, deputised by Gessey Tjonga as vice chairperson. Newman Korupanda is the secretary general. Rooi-Jan Tjituka is the new treasurer, while Seven Katjipuka retained the head of disciplinary position. Kavenandangi Tjomuho and Jeomba Pelele Kamahene were elected as spokesperson and head of social welfare of the peer group, respectively.

Kicked off… One of the biggest music festivals in Namibia, Sound of Summer, has returned to the coast with a bang, with the event kicking off today. Beach party lovers are starting to show up in large numbers at the event, which marks its 10th anniversary this year. The festival features performances of different local and international djs.

RIP... Retired nurse and veteran of the liberation struggle Aino Tulimevava Nanghonda was laid to rest today at her home village of Onamukulo in Ohangwena region. She died last week, aged 83. She is survived by her husband, children and grandchildren.

BREAKING NEWS | Former Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwilima was released from prison today on remission.
Mwilima (70) had been incarcerated since August 1999 following his arrest in the aftermath of attacks by armed separatists in Katima Mulilo, part of the then-Caprivi region. He was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2015. Mwilima, who had five years remaining on his sentence, was released this morning based on good behaviour.

Honoured… Renowned fashion designer, television personality, entrepreneur and model Luis Munana was honoured last night as a fashion educator and mentor in Africa at the Abryanz Style & Fashion Awards (ASFAs) in Uganda. The awards honour top designers, creatives and cultural personalities across Africa. In November, he was named Brand Influencer of the Year under the Africa Best of the Year 2025 initiative by Ranks Africa. This recognition celebrates individuals and brands significantly shaping Africa’s growth narrative.

Scam alert… The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has issued an alert to taxpayers and the general public regarding the circulation of fraudulent messages and phone calls falsely claiming that the Agency is offering tax refunds. NamRA said it does not process tax refunds through other unofficial channels. The Agency further urged taxpayers to refrain from sharing personal or financial information with individuals claiming to represent NamRA.
