Back in touch! A lot has happened since our last post. Most importantly, meet Natasha! Natasha joined us at the beginning of February. All who attended the Anpris stand in March’s Afrikaans teachers’ conference will have spotted Natasha’s friendly, confident manner. She is our first point of contact but is most importantly focused on establishing direct contact with schools which we have yet to reach directly.
Natasha takes over from Ndaenda da Silva, who is now studying at the UNAM Northern Campus.
Lots of good things for a new school term. We will tell you about some in follow up posts. Have a great day!

Recognition! for Anpris books late last month at the National Children’s Book Forum Literary Awards when it received “Recognition for Multilingual Picture Book Project” in the category of picture books. The picture book project has been to find a way to publish and distribute books for younger children in all home languages at the same price whatever the language. We produced the prototype just over a year ago and have been fine-tuning since then. So to gain the award for 4 titles (The Three Little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man, The Donkey, the Goat and the Dog and The Goats and the Troll) across English, Afrikaans and Oshindonga within just over a year from prototype was real recognition.
Our titles are in two formats – a standard book format and a larger class reader format, which allows the class teacher to comfortably display full A3 illustrations to the whole class, while she has the story facing her. Of the latter, one of the Forum’s organisers commented “Your Big Books are a winner. Nobody … can offer such books at the moment.” Photos: Flashback to first public sight of Anpris book “The Three Little Pigs”; Bookcover of “The Three Little Pigs”, action page from the Oshindonga version and illustrator Tony Mingo

Our posters have just got bigger!
As part of our efforts to continuously improve our posters, we have found a way to increase their size by over 15% without any price increase! The change has immediate effect on over 90% of our poster designs; the remaining 10% will be phased in as existing stocks are cleared.
To celebrate, here is a post of a new maths favourite poster with the mnemonic “Kiss, hug, dance until dawn comes in the morning”. Yes! maths can be fun!

New ideas into practice! We have been asked for place and flash cards for sometime now but have struggled to get a workable and economic format. At last we are now able to offer teachers and parents personalised cards for just N$2 a word. Bold, individual letters at 50mm high on 250gsm cards that are 75mm high, can be clearly seen from the back of a classroom. If, one teacher has requested, a story is transcribed onto flash cards, we will number the cards on the back so that they can be quickly put back into order. The first orders have gone out - in Afrikaans, Khoekhoegowab and English. Font can be the colour of your choice. If you supply images, these can be appended to the individual card (e.g. "My name is Ndaenda" - with an image of Ndaenda). Smaller or larger font cards for a reading corner and individual learning can be supplied. If you would like cards for your class or home, then just send us the required text in the language to be used, specify or send any images that you require, along with text colour, and we will quote you.

Great idea! We continuously adapt our materials in the light of feedback from teachers. So when Sunshine Private School asked us for 25 of our Afrikaans posters on A3 gloss paper we were at first not sure. After all, we are usually asked to make posters and content so that children right at the back of a big classroom can easily see. But it turns out the A3 posters work really well for smaller groups and in closer spaces like reading corners, play areas and bedrooms. The children are surrounded by a mass of colour, images and texts across a full range of topics that are of interest to a growing mind.
Here's one of our Afrikaans posters which will look great on a bedroom or playroom wall along with a bunch of others. At only N$12, it's a bargain!
Thanks, Sunshine School, for the great idea!

A feature for the new term is a set of maths posters aimed at grade 4s and 5s. These posters describe the basics of adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and fractions and show how basic calculations should be set out, fractions can be converted to decimals and percentages and rounding to 10s and 100s is done. These additions mean that our English catalogue has 30 posters that start from number basics for the beginner and goes well into grade 5. Check them out by asking us for the catalogue and tell us how you want the series to develop!

A New Term is starting! We hope that it will prove fulfilling.
Here at Anpris we have been very quiet while we prepared for the new term. We have expanded the number of English posters in our catalogue to 130, updated our Khoekhoe, Oshindonga, Setswana and Silozi catalogues and prepared maths posters for grades 4 and 5s (we will feature them in the next post).
New English posters include the Lord’s Prayer, road safety, time, animal sounds and name the baby animals. And a noticeable development this last term has been a growing request for hybrid posters – posters in English and the language of a teacher’s request. We now have over 50 of these posters in different languages and can quickly adapt many of our other posters to your needs. So get in touch with us!
In the meantime, enjoy sight of our new Lord’s Prayer poster.
