Women Leaders Inspire the Girl Child During Christmas Celebrations in Corridor 19.

Corridor 19 — Christmas celebrations continued in Corridor 19 with a strong message of empowerment and inspiration for the girl child, as women leaders used the occasion to encourage young girls to pursue careers in science and leadership.

The community leadership of Vaanda Kavari, together with Dr Gladys Kahaka, a lecturer in Biochemistry at the University of Namibia (UNAM), addressed community members during the festive gathering. Their key message focused on motivating girls, particularly those from rural areas, to consider careers in science-related fields such as biochemistry.

Dr Kahaka highlighted ongoing challenges in higher education participation, noting that the number of girl-child registrations at UNAM remains low from several regions, including Omaheke, Hardap, ǁKaras and Erongo. She emphasized the importance of early encouragement, mentorship and community support to help bridge this gap.
The leaders urged parents and guardians to support girls’ education and to create an environment where young women can aspire to careers traditionally dominated by men.
The celebrations concluded with a message of hope and unity, as the leaders wished the community a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Christmas Celebrations Unite Corridor 19 Community.

Corridor 19 – The community of Corridor 19 gathered to celebrate Christmas in the company of Councillors Hon. Isando Kavari and fellow community members, continuing a long-standing village tradition.

Each year, residents come together at the large tree located at the centre of the village, which has become a symbolic meeting point for Christmas celebrations. In previous years, the occasion also included the distribution of gifts to elderly members of the community. However, many of the elders who were once honoured during these celebrations have since passed on.

This year’s event was made possible through contributions from individuals within the community, with the Councillors further sponsoring a sheep to be slaughtered for the celebration. The gathering was marked by unity, sharing, and the spirit of Christmas, reinforcing the strong sense of community that Corridor 19 is known for.
